Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Joly 22d, Milla Application. filed November 18, 1908, Serial No. 463,272. Renewed January 24, 1910. Serial No. 539,379. I
To all whom at may concern:
Be it known that l, Momes L. SimansTnIN, a citizen of ythe United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of l/lassacl'insetts7 have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable.
Leather Heels, of which the following :is a specication.
This invention relates to the class of boots and shoes, and more particularly to detachable heels, and has for an object to provide a heel of this character that can be conveniently attached to the shoe so that when the lower portion of the heel is run donn or Worn it can be replaced by a new portion at a relatively low figure and hy those unfamil-4 iar With the art of shoe making.
A further object of this invention is to provide a threaded connection bet-Ween the detachable portion of the heel and the permanent part thereof, and to provide novel and efficient means for preventing rotation A, of the detachable portion.
Other objects and advantages ivill be apparent as the nature of the invention better disclosed and` it Will be understood that lchanges Within the scope of the claim may be resorted to Withut departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar'parts in the several views, Figure l is a sectional. view taken longitudinally through a portion of a shoe showing the application of the detachable heel. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the threaded connections or ele- "ments Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the improvements for preventing rotation of the detachable heel.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown a shoe 1 which may be of any suitable form, and Which isprosuitable fastening devices which may he en# gaged With the shoe. The plate has depend ing therefrom a cylindrical socket member 6 in which is formed a vertically disposed rotation of the detachable heel.
threaded passage 7. A detachable heel is illustrated at 8 and has eml'ieddcd therein a.
connection S) comprisinga plate l() having;
passages ll formed tl'xercin, for receiving suitable fastening devices as will` be readily understood. The plate l() is providl-wd with a centrally located vertically extending threaded pin 12. Y
From the construction herein set forth and described it will be seen that the heel may be conveniently engaged with or disengaged from the portion 2 previously referrcd'to so that when the portion 8 is run down or Worn it may be replaced by a new heel section at. a minimum ligure and by those unskilled in the art ofshoe making.
At the front, the heel 8 is provided with a depression 13, and a similar depression 1 4 is formed in the front ofthe portion 2./ and the said depression 13 is thus adapted to lie with the depression 1d to forni a snbstan tially heinispherical concavity. The por tion 2 is provided with a threaded stud 15 having a rearwardly directed flattened head 1G which is perforated at 17 so that the said stud 15 may be conveniently held tothe portion 2 of the heel. The stnd is thus such that it projects into the recess 1d formed in the said portion 2, and adapted to receive a nut 18 having a substantially heinispherical shaoed portion 19 to lit the concavity formed by the depressionsv 1B 'and let. The nut 18 is preferably provided with Wrench ei'igaging faces 20, 'and :dining` licrfs Q1 adapted to receive a screw driver or the like in driving the nnt into the concavity. lt will be seen that the stud lo and the nut 18 provide effective means for proventi g .-When it desired to snbstitntc anew part for a worn part, the nnt 18 removed so that the part 8 can be conveniently revolved to disengage the pin 1Q from the passage "l" i claim The combination Vwith a shoe having a heel portion having secured thereto a rearwardly directed stud having a flattened head portion engaged with thepsaid heel portion7 said stud having its threaded portion ei:- tendingvforwardly beyond the front edge of said heel portion, an interiorly threaded socket member carried by the heel portion, of a detachable heel having embedded there-
