DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J u1y5, 1910.
Application filed May 29, 1907. Serial No. 376,441.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE GnLAs, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in a device intended to retain and expose to view all kinds of collections such for instance as postcards,
photographs, samples, stamps and the like.
In the accompanying drawings to which reference will be made in the following specification, an album provided with this arrangement is shown merely as an example.
Figure l is a front view; Fig. 2 a transverse section of the album in use; Fig. 3 is a front view; Fig. 4. a view in profile of a movable cover adapted for this album; Figs. 5 and 6 are similar views of the album closed and covered with its cover; Fig. 7 is a longitudinal section of the slides intended to be fixed in the back of the album; Figs. 8 and 9 are respectively a front View and a view from beneath of the core forming part of the said slides; Figs. 10 and 11 relate to a modification of the manner of suspending the cards 9.
The album shown, although it really constitutes a box, has nevertheless preferably the appearance of a book, which is obtained by the combination of two distinct parts. 1. The album proper comprises a rigid back a, carrying the display sheets g, and side supporting frames Z) therefor adapted to be spread apart at their lower edges so as to afford a substantial support when the album is opened for display as shown in Fig. 2. These frames are provided with side flanges c, 0 and bottom flanges c which meet and form inclosing walls when the album is shut as shown in Fig. 6. 2. A cover comprising two faces at connected by cross pieces 6 of the same form as the back a and one or more suitable clasps f. Each face I) of the album proper has an aperture l a little larger than the cards 9 constituting the collection. These cards g are located in the interior of the album and are respectively attached by gluing or otherwise on a piece it passing through a slot 2 formed in the back a. This piece h has the form of a T, the arms of which are each terminated by a head or thickened part 3. The heads 3 are located in slides i and j intended to receive them and formed by the juxtaposition of a core 4 and disks 5 fixed in any suitable manner on the ends of this core. The slides z' and j (Figs. 7 and 2) constitute a closed path adapted to be traversed by the heads 3 of the part h. The general form of these slides is in the lower part a very open V, and in the upper part an arc of a circle of large radius fitting with the arms of the V as shown in the drawings.
When the album is open the cards 9 tilt of themselves, which facilitates their handling. These positions of the cards 9 are the consequence of their weight and thickness and of the respective position which the suspension pieces 72. assume, the heads 3 of which move on the inclined parts of the slides z and j extending upward on the arms of the V hereinbefore mentioned. This displacement of the cards 9 not only facilitates the examination of the picture, sample, stamp and the like of the collection, but also it allows of the successive examination of all the cards g, because it is possible to cause the card examined to pass to the back of the album following the movement indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, the piece 72. traveling through all the upper part of the groove 2 and the slides z and The cards 9 are made of any suitable ma terial and are shaped to accommodate the card or the like to be exhibited. It will be readily understood that they may be pressed against each other to lie flat when it is desired to inclose them between the covers d. The pieces h which carry the cards are provided with a shank having branches on the ends of which the bearing heads 3 are formed. These branches are preferably curved so that the part adapts itself to the contour of the slides i and j and facilitate its sliding and swiveling action therein.
In connection with the slides for the heads 3 of the part it, I provide on the lower face of the core 4 a rib 9 which extends around the lower portion of its circumference and is adapted to engage the crotch between the bearing heads of the piece it so as to prevent the drawings may be substituted. Accordto this modificationthe parts h are'terminated by a disk 8 and carry a cross piece 7 withouta head. The disk 8 engaging 1n a groove 9 arranged in the'core 4 prevents the displacement of the cards 9 in the album assisihereinbeforeexplained. a
Theparts 4 and constituting the slides z' and '7' are fixed in the back a of the album 2 album proper,'Figs. 5 and 6, in such a Way I that'itsfaces 0? completely obscure the aperin any suitable manner so long as this is sufficiently rigid to protect the same against injury; a i V The cover, Figs. 3 and 4, is placed on the 'ture Zof the faces Z) of this album, and one or more of the cross pieces 6 hide the groove 2 serving for the passage of the pieces h.
The positionof the cover is insured by the cross pieces: e which engage between projections carried by the back a, as shown in'the drawings. In the latter the faces dof the 'cover are. indicated as an exampleas exactly fitting in the'apertures Z. I When" the cover,
.is P11 1 in place the two constituent parts of i this specification the album shownin theZ drawings is only described as an example,
I the arrangement describedforcollecting and v the album are renderedlsolid byYmeans of clasps f acting in the usual way.
- As' was stated at the commencement'of exposing to view'collections may be comv lbined with articles ofvery different appear.-
l ance such for instance as frames, .easels' ofsubstantially variable form, dimensions and decoration, and for the construction of which any'suit'ablematerials may be utilized.
I claim as my invention ind'epen ent coverjpiece for closing said apertures and thereby confining and protecting the display sheets, substantially as described;
-- .--I na display device having a supporting frame, display sheets carried thereby each provided Witha sliding and swiveling -be'aring piece, a bearing therefor carried by Whiletraversingw a, portion of the length of the latter; I
