PASS-BOOK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK J. HICKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belding, in the county of Ionia and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Pass-Book; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will on able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in leaf holding devices and is designed to provide simple means for holding the account leaves of a bank depositor or other person, so that card board, paper, leather or other composition covers may be dispensed with.

It is the experience of practically all banks that many of the new depositors leave their deposits in bank but for a short time. When a depositor opens an account with a bank he is given a pass book, which is usually of good quality of paper and is provided with covers made in imitation of leather or other material. Should the depositor desire to withdraw his money after a short period of time the book is returned to the bank. In many cases such returned pass books will show considerable wear or become soiled so as to prevent the re-use by a succeeding new depositor, thus compelling the banks to discard them. By means of my invention a device is provided which comprises two hinged metal covers, each provided with flanges adapted to hold one or more account leaves thereon, whereby each leaf when used up may be readily removed and replaced with a new leaf, and

so on.

In the following specification and in the accompanying drawings the construction of my improved device is described and illustrated.

the right cover and 2 the left cover, which are made of aluminum or other metal. The outer edges of the covers 1 and 2 are provided with inturned overlapping flanges 3, the top edges with flanges 4L and the bottom edges with flanges 5. The inner edge of the cover 1 is provided with

hinge knuckles

6 and 7 spaced apart by the flange 8, which serves with the other flanges to hold an account leaf on the cover 1. The cover 2 is provided with

hinge knuckles

9 and 10 spaced apart by the flange 11, which serves with the other flanges of said cover 2 to hold an account leaf thereon. The covers 1 and 2 are connected together by means of a pintle 12, which is passed through the knuckles of the two covers. The flanges 8 and 11 extend inwardly of the knuckles to prevent the account leaves from engaging the same, and in this way becoming torn or injured.

The cover 1 serves to hold the credit leaf face of an account while the cover 2 serves to hold the debit face. By slightly warping the leaves they may be placed in secured position on the covers or removed therefrom. Owing to the superior durability of metal the covers will show, on the average, very little wear and therefore can be used again, repeatedly.

The improved device enables a bank to supply new depositors with account or pass books at a much lower cost than heretofore.

Having described my invention I claim:

In an account leaf holder, a pair of metallic covers provided with hinged knuckles on their inner edges,apintle passed through the knuckles adapted to hold the covers together, flanges on the inner edges of the covers adapted to hold leaves away from the knuckles and flanges on the remaining edges of the covers adapted to removably hold with the other flanges account leaves on the covers.
