Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 15, 1910. Serial No. 549,381.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs FRANKLIN Goonme, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oronogo, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed- Glamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bedsteads and particularly to a means for easily and ex pedit-iously repairing a broken rail or bed leg, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l is a side elevation of the clamp applied to a broken bedstead and Fig. 2 is a. plan view of the same, the dotted lines indicating an open position of the clamp.
Throughout the following detailed description and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
Referring to the drawings by reference characters, A indicates a broken casting or lug formed on the bed leg B.
C indicates my improved clamp of peculiar form, including a substantially flat shank C, a pair of spaced parallel straps D, and a pair of straps E, hinged at F to the straps D and at E adapted to lie against the portions of the straps D which connect the same to the main portion of the clamp C.
G indicates the end of a bed rail adapted to be connected to the lug A under ordinary conditions. The lugs being commonly made of cast iron are frequently broken, and thus disables the entire bedstead unless some means are provided to make a substantial repair. Again, the lugs are usually formed around the bed leg above and below said slug, the clamp members E at such time belng free to swing on the hinges F. The next step is to bring the members E around with their ends E against the straps D, where they are secured by suitable fastening bolts K. The device may be cheaply made for the purpose set forth, of any suitable materials or sizes to fit standard sizes of makes of bedsteads, and the same may be readily applied to a broken rail or leg by an ordinary mechanic, with the expenditure of little time and labor.
I claim:
The combination with a bed leg having a lug thereon and a rail adapted to be connected to said lug, of a clamp comprising a substantially flat shank, a pair of spaced parallel straps embracing said lug and extending around the leg above and below said lug, auxiliary strap members hinged to the aforesaid straps and adapted to snugly embrace the bed leg, and means to secure the straps and auxiliary strap members together, and means to secure said shank to the rail.
