Letters Patent No. 95,6911'` ,dated October 12, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAILWAY-CARS.
The Schedule referredto in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom; it may concern:
Beit known that I, M. O. LAwLEss, of Montana, in the county .of Boone, and State of Iowa, have invented a new aridnseful Improvement in Construction'I of Gars; and Ido hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others' skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the attachment of the timbers of cars which support the draw-heads to the permanent stringere,tlxe object of which is to afford a ready means of detaehing them for repairs.
Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a carbottom constructed according to my improvement.
Figure 2 represents a. plan view of the said bottom.
Figures 3 and 4 represent details.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the permanent strngers of the bottom, and.
B, the timbers to which the draw-heads G are attached.
These latter,,timbers have heretofore been connected to the timbers A by bolting up through the bottom of the ear, and to remove them requires internal access to the cars, which are often loaded.
My invention consists in attaching these timbers B by clamps, which may be detached from the under side.
In recesses D, in the upper facesV of the stringers, I place metallic plates E, whereon. I support, by transverse bolts F, clamp-bars or plates G, stretched diag-l onally toward each end of the timbers B, Where dil described.
