To all lwhom fit may concern:

Be it known that I, SoLoMAN OICHMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Coat and Pants Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a new and improved hanger, adapted to support in a smooth, well-formed manner, the coat and either the pants or skirt of a suit of clothes.

An object of this invention is to provide a device which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, and easily adjusted.

A further object of this invention is to provide a hanger with a supporting bar and a clamping bar cooperating with said supporting bar, the latter being adjustably secured at one end and removably secured at its other end.

These and further objects, together with the construction and combination of parts, will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly7 set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which is shown a perspective view of my device, illustrating in full lines the clamping position of the movable bar, and in dotted lines the unlocked position of the movable bar.

Referring more particularly to the separate parts of the device, l indicates the top strip or shoulder support, which, while it may be formed of a single piece of material, is preferably composed of a plurality of thin strips 2, bent and secured together in an arcuate form. This method of construction leaves a smooth exterior surface, presenting no slivers to catch in the garment, which is not the case when the shoulder support is formed from a board by cutting at an angle to the grain.

Secured in any well known manner to the upper side of the top strip or shoulder support l, there is provided a former 8, which is cut in the right shape and of the right size to allow the collar of a garment to fit nicely around the same and keep it in its proper true form.

strip l and secured thereto in any wellknown manner, there are provided a pair of rods 5, of any suitable forni and material, extending preferably in the same plane as that of the shoulder support l. These rods 5 are connected at their lower ends by means of a transverse bar 6, which is secured to these rods in any well known manner, and may be made of any suitable form and material, but preferably consists of a cylindrical member, so as to offer a smooth exterior surface to support a pair of trousers or a skirt, indicated at 7. Secured to the transverse bar 6 in any well known manner, at points within the points of connection of the rods 5 to the bar 6, there are provided brackets 8 and 8 of any suitable material. These brackets 8 and 8 extend vertically for a portion of their length, and then curve outwardly to a point where they are connected to the vertical rods 5 by being wound around the same to form loops 9.

In order to secure the garment 7 on the supporting bar 6, there is provided a movable clamping bar 10, which is permanently secured to the bracket 8 in such a manner that it is capable of movement on the bracket 8, and is adapted to be removably secured to the bracket 8.

The method of securing the movable clamping bar 10 to the brackets 8 and 8 consists in providing it atone end with a perforation, through which the bracket 8 extends, and at its opposite end with a openended slot, which is adapted to t over the other bracket 8.

The utility of the device will be readily understood when taken in connection with the above description. The hook 4 is suspended from any suitable means. The shoulder-supporting strip l, by reason of its smooth curved form, will readily support a coat without tearing or wrinkling the same, maintaining it in its properly-pressed condition. The pants or skirt can be looped over the supporting bar 6 in any well known manner, with the garment preferably folded along the crease line, and the movable clamping bar 10 swung from the dotted-line position to the full-line position, and secured in this position by engaging the slotted end thereof with the bracket 8'.

It is to be noted that the curved form of the bracket 8 permits the clamping bar lO to be swung in an arc, so as to give a sufficient clearance to permit the ready removal of the garment. The outwardly curved form of the bracket 8 also permits the quick and accurate disposition of the slotted end of the clamping bar 10 over the bracket 8.

`While I have shown one embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be limited to the specific details thereof, but desire to be protected in various changes, modiications and alterations which may come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having,` thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to Secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hanger, the combination with a coat-supportin, member, of rods secured to said member, a bar secured to said rods, brackets secured to said rods and said bar, and a clamping bar permanently secured to one of said brackets and adapted to be removably secured to the other of said brackets.

2. In a hanger, the combination with a coat-supporting member, ofa pair of rods depending from said coat-supporting member, a transverse bar secured to said rods, brackets secured to said bar and extending upwardly therefrom for a portion of their length, and then outwardly in a curved manner, and forming loops around said rods, and a. clamping bar permanently secured to one of said brackets and adapted to be removably secured to the other of said brackets.

3. In a hanger, the combination with a coat-supporting member, of a pair of rods depending from said coat-supporting member, a transverse bar secured to said rods, brackets secured to said ybar and extending upwardly therefrom for a portion of their length, and then outwardly in a curved manner, and forming loops around said rods, and a clamping bar having a perforation therein engaging one of said brackets yat one end, said clamping bar also having an openended slot at its opposite end, whereby it is adapted to removably engage the other of said brackets.
