To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, LoUIs B. ZUM'BROOK, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.

The invention provides an article of toilet, specially designed to secure certain results in operation and comprises a comb of substantially flat construction provided with a reservoir adapted to be filled with water or other liquid, and a handle portion longitudinally extended from the body or stock portion of the comb designed for its manipulation and also as a closure for the reservoir.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, hereto attached.

lVhile the characteristic and essential features of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the improved comb; and, Fig. 2 is a crosssectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings, the comb consists essentially of a body or stock 1 having one edge portion cut to form teeth 2, and having its sides or faces extended intermediate the comb teeth and upper edge to form a longitudinally disposed and enlarged hollow portion or reservoir 3. One end of said hollow portion is permanently closed as indicated at t and the opposite or open end is preferably provided with a threaded inner surface designed to receive the threaded end 5 of the handle portion (3.

The body 1 with the integral teeth 2 and hollow portion or reservoir 3 may be constructed of any suitable material commonly employed in the construction of this class of articles, but of such character as to best withstand and retain heat transmitted by a boiling substance introduced within the reservoir 8. The handle 6 may be constructed of the same material as the body of comb and incased in a non-heating covering (not shown) or if preferable may be formed of material which would not be sufliciently heated by the contents of the reservoir to inconvenience the operator during its use.

In the practical operation of the comb, the handle 6 is removed and the reservoir 3 filled with boiling water after which the handle constituting a closure for said reservoir is replaced. The entire body portion of the comb including the teeth 2 becomes heated and by actual test, the comb in its heated condition removes grease and dandru'll' thus leaving the hair and scalp in a thoroughly clean condition. In addition to the beneficial and renovating effect upon the scalp, the hair owing to its contact with the heated surface of the comb is left in a light, llufl'y condition and remains where placed by the operator when the comb is turned upon one side to bring the bulging sides of the reservoir 3 to bear upon the hair simultaneously with the combing operation of the teeth 2.

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be apparent that I have provided an improved comb which in consideration of the many advantages and beneficial results obtained in operation combined with simplicity and economical construction, will be universally approved.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A comb comprising a hollow body portion closed at one end and at the other end having an inwardly projecting integral annular shoulder, screw-threaded on its interior, said body portion at its forward end being tapered toward the face of the comb, the said body portion being also provided with a longitudinal rib extending radially outward therefrom, serrated to form teeth narrower at their base than said body portion, and a solid handle of the same diameter In testimony whereof I affix my signature as ghe bdcfdy pfiltifiil having a sciewl-lthreaded in presence of two Witnesses.
