Patented June 15, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINATION TOOTHBBUSH AND DENTIFRICE HOLDER William A. Iverson, Denver, Colo. Application March as, 1946, Serial No. 657,786 1' Claim. (01. 132- 84) This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in combination toothbrush and dentifrice holders, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a sanitary and a highly convenient device of the character herein described, wherein a toothbrush and a plurality of dentifrice containing capsules are suitably positioned in an easily accessible casing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder which, by virtue of the construction above outlined, is particularly adaptable for use while traveling.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder which may be conveniently attached to an article of clothing.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a holder which is simple in construction and which cannot easily become damaged.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a holder which will lend itself easily to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a further side elevation thereof, but with the cap of the holder removed.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 5 is an underside plan view of the same.
Figure 6 is a side elevation of one of the dentifrice capsules used in the invention.
Figure '7 is a cross-sectional view, taken in the plane of the line 1-1 in Figure 2.
Figure 8 is a front elevation, showing the invention in the opened position.
Figure 9 is a cross-sectional view, taken in the plane of the line 9-9 in Figure 1.
Figure 10 is a cross-sectional view, taken in the plane of the line l'0lll in Figure '7, and
Figure 11 is a cross-sectional view, taken in the plane of the line ll-ll in Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a pair of complemental, elongated sections [5, [6, connected together at one end by means of a suit- 2 able hinge H and defining a casing, designated generally by the reference character H3.
The adjacent walls of the sections l5, l6 are each formed with a longitudinally extending recess 20, the two recesses combining to form a toothbrush compartment 2!. Each of the sections is also provided with a longitudinally extending bore 22, this constituting a dentifrice receptacle designated by the same reference character.
It will be noted that the compartment 2| and the bores 22 are opened at one end of the casing I8, while the remaining end of each of the bores is provided with an internally threaded portion 23. A screw-threaded plug 24 formed with a knurled head '25, is removably receivable in each of these bores, as will be clearly apparent from the accompanying drawings.
The compartment 2| is, of course, adapted to contain a suitable toothrush 26, while the dentifrice may either assume the form of powder as indicated at 21, or alternatively, the same may be contained in suitable capsules 28. In either instance, the powder or the capsules are receivable in the receptacles 22, as will be readily understood.
The open end portion of the casing I8 is relieved on the outer surface thereof to provide a perimetric step 29 and a cap or cover 30 is removably positioned on this step, to preserve the contents of the holder in a sanitary condition.
In effect, the cap 30 constitutes a continuation of the casing 18, and is provided with a plurality of ventilating apertures or openings 3|. A resilient clip 32, of conventional design, is secured to the cap, whereby the entire holder may be conveniently attached to an article of clothing. It will be noted that the ball 33 of the clip 32 normally engages the casing [8, thereby assisting to retain the cap 30 in position.
The dentifrice and the toothbrush become readily accessible by removing the cap 30 from the casing I8 and the latter may also be opened further by virtue of the hinge H, as indicated in the accompanying Figure 8. In this manner, the compartment 2| may be easily cleaned when required, andthe receptacles 22 may be cleaned with equal readiness, by removing the plugs 24.
It is believed that the use and the advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is considered unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown 3 and described the preferred embodiment; of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as my invention is:
A combination toothbrush and dentifrice ho1d er comprising a -pair of elongated, complemental sections hingedly connected together at one end thereof and defining a casing, the juxtaposed Walls of said sections being formed with longitudinally extending recesses, said recesses coacting to form a toothbrush compartment, each of said sections also being formed with a longitudinal bore constituting a dentifrice receptacle, said bores and said compartment being open at one end of said casing, a perforated cap removably positioned on said casing, said cap covering the open ends of said compartment and of said bores.
