Description

G.' BoKA SHAVING BRUSH Original Filevd March 25, 1927 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Aug. 2l, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
lApplication led March 25, 1927, Serial No. 1.718,346. Renewed May 26, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in Shaving and other brushes, the general ob] ect of the invention being to provide means whereby a tube of shaving cream or the like can be attached` to the brush and pressure exertedupon the tube to eject some of the material therefrom into thebristlesl of the brush Whenever desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide valve means for preventing the escape of material from the tube until pressure 1s applied to the tube.
A still further object of the invention is to so form the parts that a new tube can be substituted for an old one when the contents of the old one have been used up. v
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to
be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, refer-- ence Will be had to the accompanying drawings Wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure l is an elevation of the device.'
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 3 is a view of the handle.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a vievs7 of the valve.
In these views, 1 indicates the brush head which isformed With -an annular groove 2 to receive the bristles 3 so that a space is left at the center of the brush and said head is formed'with a central passage 5, the inner end of which is enlarged and threaded to receive the threaded nipple 6 of a tube, such as A, the inner end of the head being beveled to receive the outlet end of the tube. The handle 7 is of tubular construction to receive the tube A and the of rubber or the like. handle is reinforced by a band 8 of greater thickness than the rest of the handle and this end ofthe tube is provided With a longi- .tudinally extending .slit 9 which passes through the reinforcement and into the main part of the tubular handle so that this part of the handle can be opened or spread apart, as shown in Figure 3, to permlt a tube of paste and the brush head to be put in place.
The open end of the brush head and is formed The reinforcing part or band, at its ends, is separated l'rom the handle part, as shown at 1U, so that the ends of the reinforcement can be stretched and thus brought together and fastened by the latch part 1l engaging the keeper part 12, these parts being fastened to the ends of the reinforcement. This will hold the tube A and the brush head in the handle part, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4. The open end of the handle part is fromed with an inwardly extending flange 13 which overlaps f the brush head, as shown in i Figure 2.
A rod 14 is enlarged inner endI of the passage 5 with the outer portion of the passage and a fiat sinuous spring l5 has one end attached to this rod. A valve forming ball16 is fastened to the other end of the spring and closes the outer end of the passage.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a tube of paste and the brush head can be easily placed in the tubular handle, after which the parts are closed andfastened together by the latch means. When it is desired to use the brush, it is simply necessary to squeeze the tubular handle to exert pressure upon the tube A and this will force some of the contents of the tube through the passage 5, past the valve into the bristles. As soon as the v pressure ceases, the spring 15 Will draw the valve back upon its seat and thus prevent the escape of any more of the material. Air Will enter the slit 9 to prevent a vacuum being formed in the tubular handle, or if de- Sired, a small hole 17 may be formed in the end of the tubular handle to permit air to enter the same. .i
As will be seen, with this device, paste can be delivered to the bristles of the brush by a simple pressure on the handle of the device and the valve will keep the passage closed sol that there is no danger of the contents of the tube drying out or too much paste passing to the bristles. When the contents of one tube have been used, a new tube can be substituted for the old one and the bristles can be Washed, after the brush has been used,"to rid them of the paste, the valve preventing any more paste reaching the bristles until the handle is pressed upon.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
placed at the junction of the.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A brush of the class described comprising a head, an annular row of bristles carried thereby, said head hav-ing a centrally arranged passage therethrough, the inner end thereinand means for fastening the ends' of the reinforced part together.
2. A brush of the class described comprising a brush head, said head having a centrally 20 arranged passage therethrough, the inner end of which is threaded to receive the threaded outlet end of a paste tube, a tubular handle fitting over the tube and head, the open end of which has a reinforcing band around the 25 same, said tubular handle and band being split to permit? the head and tube to be placed therein, means foil fastening t-he ends of the reinforced part together.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GEORGE BOKA.
