953,%67. Specification of letterslatent- Fatented Apr. 5, 1910.
Application filed April 15,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, JEREMIAH l V. STAL- LINGs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lafayette, in the county of Chambers and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to plows, and more particularly to the blades thereof, and my object is to provide a sweep of the type commonly known as wing sweeps, of a novel and highly useful construction to turn the soil and adjust the width thereof, in addition to a point, for instance a scooter, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, and form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross section through the standard looking down upon the share. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through the blades and that portion of the standard shown in Fig. 2, and, Fig. i is a rear elevation of the wings removed.
In the practical embodiment of my invention, I provide in connection with a single foot or supporting standard a, comprising parallel side arms a, and formed by intermediately bending a single bar of metal, the upper free ends of said. bar bein suitably secured to the beam A of a plow A, a wing sweep comprising similar shaped wings 5, extending upwardly in rearwardly diverging planes, and curved intermediate their ends suflicient-ly to produce a spiral movement of the soil for pulverizing the same. The wings 5 have lateral extensions 6 upon their con- 1909. Serial No. 490,088.
tiguous ends and adjacent their lower ends,
which extensions are adapted to overlap one another and are provided with elongated slotted openings 7 through which the heel bolt 8, extending between the standard side arms a passes. Thus wings 5 may be adjusted toward and away from one another when desired.
The plow point or scooter 9, through which the heel bolt 8 also passes, is in accord ance with my invention, made of sufiicient width to span and cover the slots 7 in any adjusted position of wings 5, to prevent the collection of trash.
Having fully described my invention, I claim:
The combination with a standard, of a wing-sweep arranged thereon, comprising separate curved wings provided. with laterally extending and normally horizontally arranged projections, said projections being arranged upon the forward side of said standard in superposed relation, said projections being provided with relatively long straight registering slots which normally lie in a horizontal plane, whereby said Wings may be adjusted laterally without changing the angles of the same, a headed bolt passed through said slots and said standard, a clamping nut arranged upon said bolt, and a plow point arranged upon the forward side of said projections, overlapping the same, and clamped in position by said bolt.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JEREMIAH lV. STALLINGS.
