MECHANISM FOR ADJUSTING PLOVTS SIDEWISE.
Application filed February 4, 1924. Serial No. 690,492,
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. RAAZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Campo, in the county of lVharton and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Mechanism for Adjusting Plows Sidewise, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide novel means for adjusting plows laterally with respect to the draft line, and this application discloses matter described in the application that matured into my Patent No. 1,471,706. It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view,
which will appear as the description pro ceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown, can be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Figure 1; and Figure 4 is a plan showing a modified plow share which may be used if desired.
The numeral 1 designates a main bar or support, which may be of rectangular cross section. Angle brackets 2 are mounted on the bar 1 and are held on the bar by U-bolts 3, the construction being such that the brackets may be adjusted toward and away from each other, transversely of the implement. Beams 4 extend across the bar 1, and are secured to the upstanding flanges of the angle brackets by attaching elements 5. Plow shares 6 are carried by the rear ends of the beams 4, and comprise mold boards 8 and land sides 7 The numeral 9 marks a head bar carrying a draft rigging 44, also divided out ofthe application which matured into my aforesaid patent. The draft rigging need not be described in detail, because it is set forth and claimed in my co-pending application Serial No.' 690,493, filed on the 4th day of February, 1924. The head bar 9 is provided with a plurality of openings 10, spaced apart transversely of the draft line, and adapted to receive securing elements 11, whereby the beams are joined to the head bar, adj ustably.
The beams 4 are connected intermediate their ends by a longitudinally adjustable brace. which, as shown in Figure 3, is made up of plates 30 and 31, having their inner ends overlapped, the outer ends of the plates having depending flanges 32, which are secured to thebeants 4 by attaching elements 33. The plates 30 and 31 have registering longitudinal slots 34, adapted to receive a securing element The plate 31 has rearwardly extended socket 36, adapted to receive a support 37 carrying a seat 38, the securing element 35 passing through the seat support 37, the socket 36 and the overlapped inner ends of the plates 30 and 31, the securing element 35 being located in the slots 34 of the plates 30 and 31.
An axle 39 is mounted in the main bar 1 and carries hangers 4O whereon ground wheels 41 are mounted rotatably.
The shares 6 may remain in the spaced relation shown in Figure 1, so as to turn the furrows outwardly in opposite directions, or they may be moved inwardly until the landsides 7 cooperate to form a middlebuster. This is true because the forward ends of the beams 4 are connected to the head bar 9 by the securing elements 11, it being possible to mount the securing elements in any of the openings 10 of the head. bar. For a like end, the brackets 2 which carry the beams 4 may be shifted lengthwise of the main bar 1, when the Ubolts 3 are slacked away. The securing element 35 may be loosened, and because the said securing element is mounted in the slots 34 of the plates 30 and 31, the brace formed by the plates may be adjusted in length when the beams 4 are moved toward and away from each other to adjust the distance between the shares 6.
Although the shares 6 cooperate to form a two-piece middlebuster, the shares need not be of the precise form shown, and any kind of a share may be employed. Thus, as delineated in Figure 4, each beam 42 may carry a one-piece middlebuster 43.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, a wheel-mounted vehicle comprising an axle, brackets mounted on the axle, means for securing the brackets to the axle for adjustment transversely of the draft line, beams secured to the brackets, shares carried by the beams, a head ban means for connecting the beams to the head bar for adjustment transversely of the draft line, and draft means assembled with the head bar.
2. In a device of the class described, a wheel-mounted vehicle comprising an axle beams extended transversely of the axle, means for securing the beams to the axle for adjustment transversely of the draft line, shares carried by the beams, a longitudinally extensible brace connected to the beams and con'iprising overlapped parts; one of which is provided with a slot, and a clamping device located in the slot and connecting the overlapped parts of the brace.
3. In a device of the class described, a wheelanounted vehicle comprising an axle,
brackets on the axle, means -for securing the brackets to the axle for adjustment transversely of the draft line, beams mounted on the brackets, shares carried by the beams, a head bar, means for connecting the beams to the head bar at adjusted points longitudinally oi the head bar and transversely of the draft line, a longitudinally extensible brace connecting the beams and including overlapped parts, and a ciantping'deviee connecting the overlapped parts of the brace.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
