ENCIL AND PEN HELDER AND GUARD.
@"fab. Specification 0f letters-*Satelitatented Mar. 2?, ir. Application filed April 2, 1969. Serial No. 487,600.
To all whom it may concern.' l The guard and holder may be constructed Bc it known that l, VilLLiAM D. VCGAA, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Douglas, in the State otr lilyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pencil and Pen Holders and Guards, ot which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to improvements in pen and pencil attachments7 and its primary object is the provision ot a combined pen and pencil guard and holder which shall be simple, strong and etlicient of construction7 which may be attached to a pen or pencil of any type, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
"With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction7 combination and arrangement of parts llereinatter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing7 wherein Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the application of my improved guard and holder. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the guard and holder, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the guard and holder.
My improved guard and holder comprises substantially U-shaped body l which is adapted to be secured at its open end to a pen or pencil, the closed end oi the body being adapted to contact with the paper dui ing the use of the pen or pencil.
At their free ends the arms of the body l are provided with loops or eyes 3, said loops or eyes being adapted to receive a pen or pencil. rlhe frictional engagement between the pen. or pencil and the loops or eyes 3 is such as to secure the guard. and holder on the pen or pencil against accidental movement. At its Afree end one ot the arms 2 is provided with a grip 4t which is preferably in the form of a hook, said grip projecting at right angles from one of the eyes 3 and providing means by which the pen or pencil, to which the combined guard and holder is applied, can be secured to a person against loss, the grip being adapted to engage the person.
ot a single length of wire. and when so constructed the wire is bentto provide the body il, after which it is coiled to provide the loops or eyes After the body l and the loops or eyes 3 are formed, the wire is bent to provide the grip Lit,
A in Fig. l of the dra Ying, the guard and holder is shown applied to a pencil Villien using the pencil the grip et is grasped by the thumb and index tinger, the other lingers of the hand passing through the body l.
The combined guard and holder is simple or construction, may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost, and may be applied to a pen or pencil of any type. lt prevents what is known as writers cramp7 and provides means by which the pen or pencil may be secured to the person.
Changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be made within the scope oit' the claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any ot the advantages of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is The combination with a writing implement7 of a combined guard and holder theretor, said guard and holder comprising a i-shaped body projecting laterally from the writing implement and provided at its ends with a pair of parallel eyes frictionally embracing the writing implement7 and a grip formed on one of the eyes and arranged at right angles with relation to the plane thereof, said grip being adapted to be engaged by the thumb and index tinger when the writing implement is in use and providing' means by which the writing implement may be suspended from the person.
ln. testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
