Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1907.
Application filed September 27. 1906. Serial No. 336.506.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .TAMESLUTHER DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montpellier, in the county of Stanislaus and State of California, have incil-Holdersj and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved pencil holder for holding a pencil in the pocket, and which consists of a wire coil adapted to be placed on and to grip a pencil and having, one of its convolutions bent and extended to form a hook for clamping a pencil in place in a pocket, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the'accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is an elevation of a pencil provided with my improved holder; and Fig. 2 is a similar view at right angles to Fig. 1.
My improved pencil holder is a wire coil 1 of sufiicient diameter to enable the same to-be placed and securedon a pencil so as to firmly grip the pencil. At a point between the ends of the coil, one of its convolutions is extended and bent to form a hook 2, which extends toward the point of the pencil and serves to i grip the outer side of the pocket between said hook and the pencil to firmly hold the pencil in the pocket and yet permit it to be readily taken out of the same.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Such changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction as fall within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim,-
In combination with a pencil, a holder comprising a wire coil placed on and having its convolutions engaging and compressing the pencil, one of the intermediate convolutions being bent to form an open-looped spring clasp member extending longitudinally of the pencil and pressed toward the same to coact therewith in clamping the pencil in a pocket or the like receptacle, said clasp member having its sides diverging to a point intermediate its ends, and converging from said point to its outer end, said outer end being outturned to facilitate the engagement of said clasp member with the pocket or receptacle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES LUTHER DUNN.
