To all whom it may concern:

Reading, in the county of Berks and State of 4 Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in atch-Pockets, of which 3 the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a novel. construction of watch pocket and particularly to a pocket. closure or protcctor,-l)y which an outside pocket in which a watch placed will be held closed to prevent the watch from falling out and becoming injured or lost or stolen from the pocket.

The objectof the invention is to provide a pocket closing means which is particularly designed for the use of workmen and others who carry their watches in outside pockets, such as in the pocket or a blouse or pair of overalls, but which may be readily and con vcniently applied to any ordinary torni oi pocket of a ga went. and will serve to hold the pocket securely closed against the accidental displacement of the watch or its surreptitious removal without the owner becoming aware of the tact that an attempt is being made to abstract it.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a portion of a garmenh on the outer side of which is arranged the pocket 2, formed of a suitable section of material sewed to the ment at its bottom and side edges, the pocket thus being open at the top in the ordinary manner.

The pocket closure comprises a rear or inner retaining strip 3 formed of spring metal, which strip extends transversely of the pocket on the inner side of the garment 1, said strip being substantially coextensive in length with the width of the pocket and arranged a short. distance below the mouth or open end thereof. 'When the strip 5 is applied in the manner set forth, it will be disposed for use as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and it will thus be seen that the mouth of the pocket will be held closed and the guide or closure strip 5 reained in position by the studs. Hence the watch cannot fall out of. the pocket or be abstracted without forcibly bowing the strip or detaching said strip. so that an attempt on the part of an unscriumlous person to remove the watch cannot be successfully carried out without the owner being made aware of the attempt. It at any time it is desired to open the pocket. and withdrmv the watch, this operation can be conveniently eii ected by inserting the fingers of the hand into the mouth of the pocket and forcibly" spreading or bowing the strips 3 and 5 in opposite directions, whereupon the mouth of the pocket will be distended sufliciently to allow the watch'to be withdrawn.

From the foregoing description, the construction and mode of the use of my invention will be readily understood, and it will be seen that it provides a simple and effective device for the purpose.

hile I have described the closure as primarily adapted for watch pockets, it will, of course, be understood that it may be used as a closure for any other kind of pocket.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

1. In combination with a pocket, a closure for the mouth of the pocket comprising a spring strip extending transversely across the rear of the pocket, headed studs carried 1 by said strip and projecting at the front of the pocket, and a second spring strip adapted to extend transversely across the front of the pocket and provided with longitudinal slots to receive said studs and enlargements at the inner ends of said slots for the insertion and withdrawal of the studs.

2. A pocket closure comprising a spring strip, headed studs projecting forwardly at right angles from the front face of said strip adjacent the ends thereof, each of said studs comprising a stem or shank of uniform diameter having a head or enlargement at its free end, and a second spring strip provided with elongated longitudinal slots at its ends to receive the shanks of the studs, each of said slots having body portions of uniform width provided with enlargements at their inner ends for the passage of the heads of the studs.
