' a wire JONATHAN L. BRASSINGTON, OF MOUNT CARMEL, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLACKET-CLOSER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1907.
Application filed March 28,1907. Serial No. 365,121.
To @ZZ whom, t may con/cern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN L. BRASS- INGTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Carmel, in the county of N orthumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Placket-Closers, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in placket closers and supporting devices adapted to be connected to the waist and comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view showin@r the application of my invention, parts being illustrated in elevation; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an elevation showing a slight modification of the invention. Fig. 5 is a view of the modified form shown in Fig. 4 with the fasteners disconnected and Fig. 6 is a detailed view of a tab engaging plate.
' Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a skirt having the two metallic stiffening strips B secured to the meeting edges of the placket, preferably stitched to the rear faces thereof. One of said strips is provided with buttons D, the opposite str-ip having fixed thereto a series of apertured plates E designed to engage said buttons to hold the' strips together, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
F designates a waist having loops F secured thereto, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, said loops being adapted to receive having an eye at the end.
In Fig. l of the drawings, I have shown three loops, the end loops being adapted to be passed through a transverse slot H in the plate H', detail of which is shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, and, after the loop has been passed through the slot of the plate the wire set is inserted through the same and adapted to hold the plate, as shown clearly in the drawings.
K designates a belt passed through the parallel slots 7L formed in the plate H and forms means whereby the belt may be supported. Supported by the middle or intermediate loop is a plate O, clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, which is provided with diagonally disposed slots O, the ends of which are enlarged to receive the heads of buttons Q on the upper ends of said stiffening strips. Said plate O has the parallel slots O2 for the reception of the belt K, as'shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Referring to Figs. l and 2 of the drawings will be seen an auxiliary plate R which is pivotally mounted upon one of the buttons of a strip B and is provided for use when the modified forms, illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, are employed, in which fastening means is provided for a princess style of gown in which the waist is dispensed with. In this modified form the plate R is provided with an L-shaped recess which is designed to engage a button Q, as shown clearlyin Fig. 4 of the drawings, thereby causing the upper meeting edges of the placket to be held as shown.
By the provision of the apparatus shown and described, it will be noted that a simple and efficient means is afforded for holding the meeting edges of` the placket closed, while the skirt to which the strips are fastened rnay be secured to a waist or held as in the modified form without the employment of the waist or connections therewith.
What I claim to be new is 1. A placket closing apparatus comprising stiffening strips fastened. to the meeting edges of a placket, fastening means for holding the strips together, a button fixed to the upper end of each of said strips, a waist, a loop secured thereto, a slotted plate through which said loop passes, a pin passing through said loop and adapted to bear against the face of the plate and hold the plate upon the loop, said plate having inclined slots for the rece tion of the buttons upon said strips, as
orth.
2. A placket closing apparatus comprising stiffening strips fastened to the meeting edges of a placket, fastening means for holding the strips together, a button fixed to the IOO upper end of each of said strips, a Waist, a passed through slots in the plate, as set loop secured thereto, a slotted plate through Jforth. v
which said loop passes, a pin passing In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my through said loop and adapted to bear signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
against the face of the plate and hold the JONATHAN L. BRASS'INGTON. plate u on the loop, said plate having n- Witnesses:
@lined s ots for the reception of the buttons F. E. TIER,
upon said strips and a belt adapted to be A. L. SNYDER.
