STATES TAENT @FTCE EDWARD J". DROZ, 0F BELLEVUE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE VJ. FEATHER. OF VJILKINSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
SCOOP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. DROZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bellevue, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scoops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to scoops and blanks for making the same and one of the objects thereof is to provide a scoop in a manner as hereinafter set forth whereby one is able to scoop up the material at one end of the scoop and discharge the same through the other end of the scoop.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invent-ion, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to, which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
Referring to the drawings in detail, Figure 1 is a face view of a blank from which a scoop in accordance with this invention is set up, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the scoop, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the scoop, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the scoop showing the same provided with handles, and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of a form shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings and which shows the blank from which the.
scoop is made, said blank is formed from a thin piece of metallic material and comprises a body portion 1 and an extension 2. The extension 2 terminates in the body portion 1 and at the point of juncture between said extension and body portion a score 8 is provided and said extension has each end pointed as at 4, that is to say, substantially in the form of a V. The inner terminus of the inner side of each pointed end 4: extends inwardly beyond the plane in which extends the inner terminus of the outer side of said end and the said inner side of said end is of greater length than the outer side Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 14, 1909.
Serial No. 512,876.
thereof. The body portion 1 is scored at an inclination as at 5, said score extending from the score 3 to the edge 6 of the body portion. The side edges of the body portion from the edge 6 extends upwardly and outwardly, then upwardly and inwardly as at 9 and then inwardly and downwardly as at 10 whereby a V shaped space 11 will be formed between each edge 10 and each end of the extension 2 of the blank. The blank is folded upon itself to provide a scoop as clearly shown in Fig. 3 and the said scoop consists of a body portion 12, a funnelshaped end 13 and an upwardly inclined scooping end 1 1 having side walls 15 maintained in the body portion 12.
From the foregoing construction of the scoop it is evident that the material which is taken up at the inclined end can be dis charged from the funnel end thereof and if desired the body portion of the scoop may be provided with handles 17 so that the scoop can be conveniently used or so that the scoop can be made of a large size for handling grain.
hat I claim is 1. A scoop comprising a body portion, a funnel-shaped end projecting from said body portion and open at its free terminus, said funnel-shaped end gradually decreasing in diameter toward its free terminus, an upwardly-extending inclined scooping end extending from the other end of said body portion and provided with a pair of side walls gradually decreasing in height inwardly and disconnected from the body portion and extending in parallelism with respect to and exteriorly of said side walls for maintaining them in position, said extensions gradually decreasing in height outwardly.
2. A scoop comprising a body portion, a funnelshaped end projecting from said body portion and open at its free terminus, said funnel-shaped end gradually decreasing in diameter toward its free terminus, an upwardly-extending inclined scooping end extending from the other end of said body portion and provided with a pair of side walls gradually decreasing in height inwardly and disconnected from the body portion and extending in parallelism with re- Patented Mar. 15, 1910.
spect to and exteriorly of said side Walls 1 for maintaining them in position, said extensions gradually decreasing in height outwardly, and a pair of laterally-extending 5 handles connected to the sides of the body portion and projecting over and connected to the sides of said funnel-shaped end.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
EDWARD J. DROZ.
Vitnesses I. H. RABSAG, MAX H. SROLOVITZ.
