IMPROVEMENT IN resume-Meenemen ron Genome-ENGINE.
`'.lfhelsehedule referred to in these Letters- Patentnnd making part bf the same.
Be it knownthat I, A. A, DOW, of Glenbam, in the `county of Dutchess, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Feeding-Apparatus for Gaming-Machines; and I.; do hereby declare that the fbllowing'is a full, clear, and exactidescription thereof,
kwhich will enable others lskilled in theart to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom- `panying drawings, forming part of this "specification,
The .obeot of this invention is to provideeertain improvements` in the Apperly'land Olissold diagonal feed `lor second breakers and finishers, calculated to make the same more eiicient than as at present arranged. Y
y Ihe invention consists in providing the toothed or spikedfeedingstrap on the short side of the said feedingfdevicewith the `oygienating-devices hereinafter fie- .scribed, having positive movements; also in provid- `ing the rollei's of the traveller, which lays theroping, with the means hereinafter described, -for operating them `positively.
g -Figure l represents in red a Vfeeding-apparatus, with my improvements attached, and shown mostly inbiaok; l
Figure 2 represents alfrontelevation of tiles-aine; y Iligurei` represents a side elevation of my improved arrangement of means for operating the said short toothed feeding-belt;
Figure 4 represents a plan view of the same; Figure 5 represents `a plan view of the traveller; and- Figure 6 represents an elevation of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.'`
i A short toothed belt,'.A, is employed on the short side of this feeding-appz-n'atus, above the `carrying-belts andthe roping, designed to insure a steady and uniform movement ofthe looped ends ofthe roping, which are otherwise liable to bev arrested, and separatedI in Mone part and pressed together' in another, resulting in 1 uneven edges, in the bats'.
` This beltis now operatedbya driving-pulley at one end, andzworks over a tension-pulley at `the other, and owing to being` so 4 short,.it works badly in this way,
very often ,slipping and aggravating the evil it is designedto overcome, to o bviate which, I propose to provide the hnb of `the'driving-pulley B with a toothed plan view of the said' each, whereby the motion of one is positively dependent upon the other, andthe belt insured against slipping. y
For adjusting the tension-pulley andthe intermedif ate wheelH relatively thereto, the end of the support G of, the intermediate wheel `is slotted where the axle ofthe said pulley passes through it, andthe stud-pin of the wheel H is adjustable in a curved slot, T. y
In the common arrangement, the-laying-rollers K of the travellers are dependent for their rotary motion upon their frietional Contact with the smooth face of .the bar L, which, owing-to various causes,is not per@ fectly reliable, and they sometimes fail to revolve, n
which works great` damage, owing to the delicate nature ot' the roping, which is thereby laid very irregu-` larly, producing irregularities in the bats. Therefore, I propose to form cog-teeth on the face of the bar L, and corresponding teeth `on the upper ends of the roll V ers gearing into them, as showny at M N; and to prevent the` ropingor fibres thereof from working up into the said teeth, I interpose the plate O between the working-parts of the said rollers and the toothed parts.
I propose also in some cases tol-use a chain and chainwheels for operating the ulleys of the said feed-belt A, the said chain and wheels beinggarranged with recesses and projections, to prevent slipping.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent` l. The combination, with. the short toothed belt A, of the diagonal;feeding-mechanism herein described, of the geared pulleys B E, intermediate wheel H,`and slotted support G, all arranged substantially as specified. A t
2. The arrangement with the laying-traveller of the toothed rollers K, toothed rack M, and guard-plate O, all substantially as specified.
' `A.4 A. DOW. Witnesses: y
FRANK 'BLocKLnY, G.'L. TOPLIFF.
