Description

N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAFNER. WASHINGTON D CV UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC C. LANE, Old"y IVALTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY TEMPLES FOR LOONIS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 3,511, dated March 26, 1844.
The nature of this my invention consists of a standard and two cog-wheels to revolve one above the other, as seen in the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, wherein- A and A2 in parts first and second repre sent the upper wheels, which revolve in an inclined position.
bL and b2 represent the lower wheels, which revolve horizontally. The wheels have upon,
their inward lateral surfaces at the circumferences cogs and grooves so fixed that the inward surfaces are contiguous at the points c c and a small distance on each side of the points c c. The other parts of theinward surfaces are at a distance from each other so that the cloth can pass between them untouched except at the poin ts c c, where the selvage is compressed by the wheels, which by their operation widen and extend the cloth without producing unevenness or injury to the selvage; also, my invention makes a great 'saving in the wear of weavers reeds by keeping the threads ofthe cloth 'at the out edges straight, even, and in their proper places, thereby making a firm and even selvage, which no other temples do to my knowledge.
D D represent the lingers or supports that hold the upper wheels in their positions; E E, the standards in which the lower wheels revolve; F F, the guides to keep the cloth in its place.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combining of two cog-wheels together, the cogs of which are notched, to prevent the cloth held between the two wheels from being drawn out, and these thus combined with the guides, for the purpose and in the manner described in thedrawings hereto annexed.
ISAAC C. LANE.
