Application. filed July Be it known that l, EARL D. Prmns'ronn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Bed-Cover Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a device, the purpose of which is to support the covers of a bed at the foot of the bed so as to relieve the feet from the weight of the bed-clothes.-

This device is particularly useful as an attachment to the bed of an invalid, and it is also useful in feet cool.

The invention consists. in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly'set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

In this way the standards 5, 5, are securely I attached to the rail. The upper ends of the sections or extensions 5 are bent over so as to form substantially horizontal arms 14 which project toward the head of the bed. These arms 14 are not perfectly horizontal, but are bent slightly so as to form a crown 15, from which the arms, incline downwardly in both directions.

To the arms 14, and on the upper sides thereof, I attach a plurality of strips 16, the bodies of which are reduced in width, as indicated. The ends of these strips are enlarged laterally so as to form heads 17 the side edges whereof abut against each other, as shown, in this way open spaces 18 are formed between the slats, and the slats may be said toconsti-tute a grille. Thejoints 7 are located at about the same level as the upper face of the mattress 19-which is supported by the bedstead. The arms 14 taper toward their free ends, as indicated in Fig. 3. The ends of the slats 16 at the heads 17 are curved downwardly so that the bed covers 20 will hang nicely at the ends of the device.

The slats 16, together with the sections 5 of the standards, constitute a removable frame, and it should be understood that this frame is removed when the bed is being made up. This will permit the lower parts of the bedding to be properly arranged. The upper part of the support is then placed in position and the covers which go over the support are then placed on the bed. It will be evident that beneath the slats 16 a space is formed which will receive the feet of the person lying in the bed, while at the same time the slats will support the weight of the covers at this point. This re- I lieves the feet of any weight and produces a cool air space in summer time.

In a device of the class described, in combination, standard sections having means for attaching the same to the foot rail of a bedstead and having sockets formed at the upper end thereof, upper sections removably seating in said sockets and having arms projecting inwardly over the bed, and slats attached to said arms and extending transversely of the bedstead and adapted to support the bed covers.

A device of the character specified comprising separable sectional standards, one section of each of the standards having at its upper end a lateral arm, and strips supported by the arms, the other section of each standard having at its lower end an angular portion with an overlying flange, and an angular clamp detachably connected to the section byone side, the other side having an-angular portion with an overlying flange for the purpose specified.
