GEORGE K. ANDERSON, OF WILLIlVIANTIC, CONNECTICUT.
SPOOL.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE K. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at ll illimantic, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spools, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in spools, and more particularly to spools made of wood pulp and the like.
The object is to provide a spool with a reinforcing body, and the pulp as it is forced into the mold will be packed around the re inforcing material in such a manner that a very strong and durable spool will be obtained.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
I n the accompanying drawingsFigure l is a partially sectional view of the spool, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the reinforcing material. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the metallic core.
A represents the spool the body of which is composed of wood pulp, but if desired other pulp could be used to practically the same advantage. A hollow core, 2, is received in the body and is constructed practically star shaped in cross section. In con structing the core in this manner the pulp is packed entirely around the core, forming a solid body from the central opening, 8, which extends through the spool in the usual manner to the exterior of the spool body. The core is constructed of wire netting,
Specification of Letters Patent.

which permits the pulp to pass through between the strands of the wire, thereby forming a solid formation throughout the spool body between the core and pulp.
In constructing the spool with the reinforcing material therein I am enabled to construct a spool which is superior to the ordinary spool or pulp spool. In constructing the core star shaped in cross section it forms a more substantial reinforcing body than could be obtained by forming the'core in a cylindrical body.
The spools or bobbins could be made of any size desired.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be made in the form and ar rangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but:
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a spool comprising a body of wood pulp, and a core of wire netting embedded therein.
2. A spool consisting of a metallic core molded in wood pulp so that the core is in closed in the pulp.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE K. ANDERSON.
