Letters Patent No. 94,962, dated September 21, 1869.
IMPROVED HOLDBACK FOR CARRIAGE-S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. KIFF, of Havana,
i county of Schuyler, and State of New York, have inof a Carriage or other Vehicle, for the purpose of holding back the same, also for the prevention of ac cidents in case the trace or traces should get loose or break from any cause, in which case the horse would still be safely attached to the carriage or other vehicle by the loops, which would then act as and in placeof the traces, and in no case can the thills drop down or become disengaged, which is safer by far for the purpose hereinbefore mentioned than any other now in use. The'harness is also quicker and easier attached to and loosened from it than from any other article ever made for the same purpose.
The title, or name is the Safety. Holdback.
This machine is composed of a bracket and lever, attached by a rivet and spring.
Reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part-of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 vis a perspective, and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal view.
In describing the narts- The one marked Ais the bracket;
The one marked B is the lever;
The one marked 0 is the rivet; and
The one marked D is the spring.
What I claim as my invention, and what I wish'to secure Letters Patent for, is-- The combination of the bracket A, lever B, spring D, and rivet O, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
