BEDSTEAD ATTACHMENT.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES E. Dnwnnsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Soto, in the county of Johnson and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bedstead Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved bedstead attachment for use especially in connection with an iron bedstead to keep the same from sagging or spreading in the middle and the said invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure l is an eleva-tion of my improved bedstead attachment showing the same set up and in operative position with reference to the rails of an iron bedstead, the said rails being indicated in cross section. Fig. 2 is an elevation of my improved attachment showing the same folded.

My improved bedstead attachment comprises a bar 1 and a pair of supporting legs 2. The said bar may be of any suitable size and shape and is adapted to be placed across a bedstead at the center thereof and is provided on its under side at its ends with recesses 3 for the reception of the rails of an iron bedstead, the said bedstead being indicated in Fig. l of the drawing at a in cross section. The supporting legs 2 are preferably tubular to provide them with bores and they are here shown as provided at their lower ends with casters 4. The said supporting legs are provided with inwardly extending brackets 5 near their upper end which brackets are pivotally connected to the bar l as at 6. The said bar is provided near its ends at points coincident with the upper ends of the bores of the supporting legs 2 when the latter are in vertical position with openings through which pass detachable pins 7. The rails of the bedstead are also provided with openings for the passage of the said pins and the latter are inserted in the bores of the supporting legs 2 when the latter are in vertical position to lock the said supporting legs in such position, the said pins also serving to secure the said rails of the bedstead at the ends of the bar 1 and above the supporting legs, the latter serving to prevent the said rails of the bedstead from sagging, as will be understood and the bar 1 in connection with the pins 7 serving to prevent them from spreading. Hence,

my improved bedstead attachment renders an ordinary iron bedstead very strong and rigid and effectually prevents the same from lspreading or sagging.

It will be observed upon reference to Fig. 2 of the drawing that my improved bedstead attachment when not in use may be folded compactly so as to take up but very little room.

I/Vhat is claimed is l. The herein described bedstead attachment comprising a bar for disposition transversely of the bedstead and notched in its under side at its ends for the reception of the side rails of the bedstead, in combination with supporting legs having inwardly eX- tending brackets at their upper ends pivotally connected to the said bar and adapting the upper ends of the said legs to bear under said rails of the bedstead between the said bar and the upper ends of the said supporting les.

The herein described bedstead attachment comprising a bar for disposition transversely of a bedstead, supporting legs for the bar pivotally connected thereto and securing pins to .be passed through the said bar, the side rails of the bedstead and into the supporting legs to secure said bar to the said rails of the bedstead and to also secure the supporting legs in upright position.

The herein described bedstead attachment comprising a bar for disposition transversely on a bedstead and having recesses for the reception of the rails thereof, said bar being further provided with openings over said recesses, supporting legs having bores in their upper portions and pivotally connected to the said bar, said supporting legs when in an upright position being disposed under said recesses and under the rails of the bedstead and securing pins for insertion in the openings of the bar through openings in the rails of the bedstead and in the bores of the support-ing legs to secure the supporting legs in upright position and also secure the bar to the rails of the bedstead.

It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 948,416, granted February 8, 1910, upon the application of James E.
