To all whom it may concern:

lie it known that l. FRANK l3. flours, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania. have invented a certain new and useful Improvenwnt in Cuspideli-Cabinets, of which the following a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in cuspidor cabinets, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character whereby the cuspidor may be housed to prevent the escape of germ laden vapors arising from the cuspidor; a further object of my invention is to provide a cabinet of the character described which will be an attractive piece of furniture which will be an ornament for a room or apartment, one which may be readily opened when it is desired to use the cuspidor.

Vith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appcrtains may understand how to make and use the same, I will. describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved cuspidor cabinet showing the top closed. Fig. 9., a plan view thereof showing the top open. Fig. 3, a section at the line XX of Fig. 9.. Fig. i, a view in elevation of the side opposite to the one shown in Fig. 1. and Fig. 5, an end view thereof.

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A represents the box which may be of any size, finish or design and constructed either of wood, metal. or other material. In this box is placed the cuspidor B, the sides of the box being formed with the extensions C between which are movably fastened the supporting members D by means of the crank shafts E which run through the supporting members D and rest in the extensions C of the sides. To these supporting members are fastened the covers F which are adapted to rest upon the top of the box; on the upper surface of the covers at their outer edges are secured the brackets G which are drawn together by the rods H, said brackets being of such form that the upper ends extend beyond the edge of the covers so that the rods H will also be beyond the edge thereof.

I denotes an approximately Z-shaped lever the ends of which are attached to the crank shafts E so that said crank shafts will work in unison.

J represents the legs which are attached to the under side of the box so that said box will be raised a suitable distance above the floor.

The operation of the device is as follows By pressing down upon the right hand rod H the cover to which it is attached will be raised or opened and at the same time the supporting member D will be turned, which will cause the crank shaft E to do likewise. This will cause the lever I to move to the left compelling the left hand crank shaft to move to the left and downward which will revolve the left hand supporting member thus opening the left hand cover F. B pressing down upon the left hand rod H the same operation will take place. To close the covers either one of the rods H is drawn upward, thus reversing the action of the parts.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown as these may be varied within certain limits without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is

1. In a cuspidor cabinet, a box, extensions formed with the sides thereof, legs attached to the bottom of the box, members adapted to rest between the extensions, crank shafts passing through said members and journaled in the extensions, covers attached to the members adapted to rest upon the top of the box when in their closed position, a Z-shaped lever, the ends of which are secured to the ends of the crank shafts for causing the covers to work in unison, brackets fastened to the outer edges of the covers of such form that their upper ends extend beyond the edges of the covers, and rods attached to the upper ends of said brackets, as shown and described.

2. In a cuspidor cabinet, a box, means for raising it above the floor, extensions formed with the sides of the box, supporting members, crank shafts passing through said supporting members journaled in the extensions, means for moving the crank shafts in unison, covers secured to the supporting members, brackets fastened to the outer edges of the covers in such a way that their upper ends extend beyond the edges of said covers, and rods fastened to the upper ends of said brackets, as specified.

3. In a device of the character described, a box, extensions formed with the sides thereof, legs fastened to the box, supporting members, crank shafts passing through said supporting members journaled in the extensions, a Z-shaped lever mo *ably secured to the crank shafts, covers secured to the supporting members, and means fastened to the covers for raising one of them, as and for the purpose set forth.

4. In a cuspidor cabinet. a box, extensions formed With the sides of said box, legs secured to said box, covers, means for movably securing said covers to the extensions, means for causing said covers to Work in unison, brackets fastened to the outer edges of the covers in such a way that the upper ends extend beyond the edges of said covers, and rods secured to the upper ends of said brackets for opening one of the covers, as shown and described.
