ERNST MOSER, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
SHARPENING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST MosER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sharpening Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to sharpening devices for safety razor blades and has for its object a simple and efiicient construction for holding the blades during sharpening in conjunction with rotary sharpening rollers.
Referring to the drawings in which like parts are similarly designated; Figure l is a transverse section on the line a-a of Fig. 2, of the blade holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blade holder. Fig. 3 shows the blade holder in plan mounted in operative position and Fig. et is a side elevation of Fig. 3.
The sharpening device consists of a suitable frame having parallel guide rails 9, 9, on which is slidably mounted a carriage 8 carrying the sharpening rolls 6 that are driven by means of friction wheels 0 mounted on each end of their axes and in frictional contact with the rails 9.
The holder for the blade comprises a plate 1 preferably but not necessarily, of sheet metal. This plate has on each end a pair of eyes 2, here shown as integral therewith, serving to hold the plate 1 to the rails 9, as it is moved to and fro along them. Between the eyes of each pair is an inverted trough shaped portion 8 preferably integral with the plate 1 and taking over the rails for guiding the plate 1. The plate 1 is provided with a longitudinal slot 5, here shown as centrally located over the space between the two sharpening rolls. At the ends at of this slot are threaded openings communicating with the slot 5 and into which take the screws provided with vertical lateral slots 7 extending the entire length of the screws,

the openings and the slots being open toward the slot 5 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The screws 6 can be raised and lowered so as to set the razor blade held in their slots (Fig. 3) in proper relation to the sharpening rolls 6.
The plate 1 has sufficient play relatively to the carriage so that when the plate and carriage are moved in one direction along the rails 9 the blade will be moved againstone of the rolls and when moved in the other direction against the other roll.
I claim 1. In a sharpening device the combination with a frame and a carriage movable to and fro thereon having sharpening rolls mounted therein; of a blade holder comprising a plate having a slot therein in which the blade is mounted and screws at each end of the slot having lateral slots into which the ends of the blade take.
2. In a sharpening device the combination with a frame, and a carriage movable to and fro thereon, having sharpening rolls mounted therein; of a blade holder comprising a plate, having a slot therein, in which the blade is mounted, screws at each end of the slot having lateral slots into which the ends of the blade take and eyes formed on the plate to hold itto the frame.
3. In a sharpening device the combination with a frame, and a carriage movable to and fro thereon, having sharpening rolls mounted therein; of a blade holder comprising a plate having a pair of eyes at each end to engage the frame, an inverted trough shaped member between the eyes of each pair taking over the frame and a slot in the plate situated between the rolls, and screws situated at the other ends of said slots and having vertical lateral slots into which the ends of the blade are held.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST MOSER.
