ALBERT C. RODIBAUGH, FRANK, PENNSYLVANIA.
RAZOR-STROPPING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24, 1912.
Application filed March 8, 1912. Serial No. 682,353.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT C. Rom- Bacon, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Frank, in the county tion is to provide a device of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Stropping Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a razor stropping device, and the primary object of my inventhat can be advantageously used in connection with razors for correctly positioning the same, without any danger of the hands being cut or injured by contacting with a blade.
Anther object of this invention is to provide a device of the above type with a shiftable razor support that permits of the edges of the razor being evenly and properly sharpened without any liability of the sharpening medium being cut or injured.
A further object of this invention is to provide a simple and durable device of the above type consisting of comparatively few parts that are inexpensive to manufacture and easy to manipulate.
WVith the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now wherein 2-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the razor stropping device, Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device.
A device in accordance with this invention comprises a yoke 1 having apertured side arms 2. The yoke 1, intermediate the ends thereof, has an eye or link 3 by which the device can be suspended from a hook or other support. The yoke 1 has the ends thereof provided with longitudinally alining guide rods 4, for a purpose that will presently appear.
Rotatably mounted in the side arms 2 of the yoke 1 is a shaft 5 and mounted upon said shaft, between the arms 2, is a roller 6. One end of the shaft has a screw 7 and the opposite end thereof a head or button 8, whereby said shaft can be manually rotated. The shaft movably supports the guide arms 9 and 10 of a shiftable member be had to the drawing,
11 to which is riveted or otherwise connected, as at 12 a razor holder 13. The razor holder comprises resilient arms for frictionally engaging the sides of a razor, and the arm 10 is slidably mounted upon the end of the shaft 5, while the arm 9 is engaged by the screw 7 whereby the member 11 can be shifted longitudinally with respect to the yoke 1. The upper ends of the arms 9 and 10 are slotted, as at 141 to receive the guide rods 1, carried by the yoke 1.
Movably suspended upon the shaft 5, at the outer sides of the arms 2, are parallel frames 15 having the lower ends thereof connected by sets of rods 16 and 17. Revolubly mounted upon the rods 16 and 17, between the frames 15, are rollers 18 and 19 respectively. The side frames 15 are provided with openings 20 whereby easy access can be had to the razor holder 13, and further to provide a clearance of the holder as the arms 9 and 10 are mounted upon the shaft 5 exteriorly of the frames 15.
The reference numeral 21 denotes a strap having cases 22 at the ends thereof for hangers 23. The strap 21 extends over the rollers 18, under the rollers 19 and upwardly over ,the roller 6, and in connection with the rollers referred to causes a tilting of the frames 15 upon the shaft 5 when the strap is reciprocated.
After the device has been connected to a hook or suitable support, a razor is placed in the holder 13, and by gripping the handles 23, the strap can be reciprocated or moved back and forth over the rollers. As the roller 6 is revolved by a movement of the strap thereon, the member 11 carrying the razor holder 13 is shifted longitudinally of the device, between the side walls of the strap 21, consequently the razor is shifted simultaneously with a movement of the strap. The operation of the strap 21 also causes the frames 15 to tilt or rock on shaft 5, whereby the strap will contact with opposite sides of the blade alternately, consequently both sides of the razor will be properly stropped, to present an even and uniform sharpened edge.
By manually manipulating the shaft 5, the razor holder 13 can be shifted to protrude through the opening 20 of one of the frames 15, whereby the razor can be easily placed in the holder.
The device in its entirety can be made of light and durable metal, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. In a razor stropping device a yoke, a shaft extending through and journaled in the arms of the yoke, frames mounted upon said shaft, a razor holder within said frames, a support mounted upon said shaft exteriorly of said fran es and extending through and connected to the razor holder for suspending it, said support and said shaft provided with means for longitudinally shifting the support, guide rods carried by said yoke for said support, a reciprocatory strap arranged between the frames, and means within the frames and engaged by the strap for tilting the frames during the reciprocation of the strap whereby the strap will alternately engage the opposite sides of the razor carried by the holder.
2. In a razor stropping device a shaft, frames suspended from said shaft and having the sides provided with openings, a support extending through said openings and having the ends thereof mounted upon said shaft, a blade holder fixed to and depending from said support, said shaft and said support provided with means for longitudinally shifting the support carrying the holder therewith, guiding means for said support, a reciprocatory strap within said frames and means carried by the frames and engaged by the strap for tilting the frames during the reciprocation of the strap whereby the latter will alternately engage the opposite side of the razor during the tilting of the frames.
3. In a razor stropping device a shaft, frames suspended from said shaft and having the sides provided with openings, a support extending through said openings and having the ends thereof mounted upon said shaft, a blade holder fixed to and depending from said support, said shaft and said support provided with means for longitudinally shifting the support carrying the holder therewith, guiding means for said support, a reciprocatory strap within said frames and means carried by the frames and engaged by the strap tilting the frames during the reciprocation of the strap whereby the latter will alternately engage the opposite sides of the razor during the tilting of the frames, and meansconnected to said guide means and to said shaft for suspending the holder.
4. In a razor stropping device a shaft, tiltable spaced frames mounted upon said shaft and provided with apenings, a support extending through mounted upon said shaft frames, said shaft and support provided with means for longitudinally shifting the support, a depending blade holder fixedly connected to said support and normally arranged between said frames, a reciprocatory strap arranged between said frames and capabl of alternately engaging the opposite sides of a razor blade during the tilting of the frames, and means interposed between said frames and engaged by said strap for tilting the frames when the strap is reciprocated.
5. In a razor stropping device a shaft, tiltable spaced frames mounted upon said shaft and provided with openings, a support extending through said openings and mounted upon said shaft at the side of said frames, said shaft and support provided with means for longitudinally shifting the support, a depending blade holder fixedly connected to said support and normally arranged between said frames, a reciprocatory strap arranged between said frames and capable of alternately engaging the opposite side of a razor blade during the tilting of I the frames, and means interposed between I I said frames and engaged by said strap for tilting the frames when the strap is reciprocated, and means mounted upon said shaft for suspending the same.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
