Application filed January 18, 1999. Serial No. 474,176.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, AARON E. PETERSON and GUST B. PETERSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Lanyon, in the county of WVebster and State of Iowa, have i invented a new and useful Adjustable Shelf- Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is to provide a simple, strong, durable, convenient and efficient adjustable bracket composed of two parts detachably connected for supporting shelves against a wall or in a closet as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the part that is to be fixed against a wall. Fig. 2 is a side view that shows the two parts connected as required for practical use.
The numeral 10 designates a wall plate made complete in one piece and adapted to be fixed to a Wall and its angular central part 12 projects forward as shown. It may be made of a single piece of sheet metal pressed into shape as shown and vary in size as desired. Or it may be cast metal formed in a mold. The central part 12 that projects forward is provided with a plurality of horizontal openings a for admitting a hook on an arm 6 as required for adjustably and detachably connecting and fastening the arm as shown in Fig. 2. The arm is also complete in one piece and made of sheet metal or cast metal to correspond in size with the main part. It is straight and fiat on top and has flanges 13 at its sides which are preferably tapering from end. to end as shown in Fig. 2, said flanges, when the arm is in place on the wall plate, closely e1nbracing the forwardly-projecting portion 12 of said plate. The rear enlarged end of said arm is formed with an angular hook b reinforced by integral braces 0 as shown in Fig. 2, or in any suitable way as required to strengthen the hook and d is a shelf on its top for supporting articles that may be placed thereon.
Having thus set forth the purpose of our invention and its construction and manner of application and use its practical operation and utility is obvious.
WVhat we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
A shelf bracket comprising a wall plate formed with a central rectangular forwardly-projecting portion throughout its length, said portion having a series of transverse openings, and an arm formed with depending side flanges and having an integral hook at its rear end adapted to engage with the wall plate through either of the openings therein, the flanges being adapted to closely embrace the sides of the projecting portion of the wall plate.
