To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, GoDrRiED LAUBE and HA'rrni R. LAUBE, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Santa Monica, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a paper holder and the object thereof is to provide means in a manner as hereinafter set forth for holding a strip of sticky fly paper so as to prevent the same from blowing away or persons contacting therewith.

. A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for adhesive paper in a manner as hereinafter set forth that can be readily clamped upon a window sill or suspended from a suitable support and further providing the holder with means to cover the insects held by the adhesive paper.

ith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a holder in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a spring lock for connecting one end 0f the cover of the holder to the tray of the holder, Fig. 3al is an enlarged sectional detailed view illustrating the clamp for the other end of the cover and tray, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a portion of a window sill illustrating a modified form of means for securing the holder thereto, a portion of one end of the holder also being shown.

Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a rectangular tray provided with sides 1a, ends 2 and a laterally-extending flange 2a which extends entirely around the sides and ends of the tray. The reference character 4 denotes a cover provided with a continuous laterally-extending flange 3 which when the cover is in position is seated over the flange 2a. The cover 4 is domeshape in longitudinal and horizontal section and is formed with diagonal slits 5, each of which extends from one corner of the cover to the opposite corner and the slits intersect each other at the center of the cover. The portions of the cover between the slits 5 are provided with openings 5a. The edges of the portions formed by the slits 5 are connected together by wires 6 and the confronting ends of the slitted portions are connected together by longitudinally and horizontally-extending wires 7 and S, said wires crossing each other at the center and one of said wires S has attached thereto a pivoted hand link which allows of the holder being easily carried or suspended from a suitable support and also provides means to enable shifting of the cover to remove it from the tray when occasion requires so that access can be had to the tray so that the adhesive strip of paper can be removed and a clean strip arranged in the tray when occasion so requires.

One end of the cover 4 is connected to one end of the tray 1 by a pair of hook-shaped clamps. Each of t-he clamps is formed of spring wire and consists of a loop-shaped body portion 9 which extends through an opening 9a in the flange 3 and has depending therefrom a hook 9c which is adapted to engage the flange 2a whereby the tray 1 is connected to the cover 4 at one end thereof and as clearly shown in Fig. 3a. The opposite end of the cover 4 is held in engagement with the tray 1 through the medium of a spring-lock. Said spring-lock consists of a yoke 10 having one end thereof bent to form a pair of hook-shaped clamps 11 and a handle 12. The yoke 10 extends centrally of and within the cover 4, and to allow of such arrangement openings 10a are provided in the cover 4 through which extends the arms of the yoke 10. The inner end of the yoke 10 is connected to the cover 4 by a coil spring 13, one end of said spring being attached to the inner end of the yoke and the other end of the cover as at 13a. rlhe yoke 10 extends longitudinally with respect to the cover and is guided in its longitudinal movement through the medium of the loops 15 formed in the guide bar 14 which extends transversely of the cover 4 and has its ends connected to the cover as at 15a. The

clamps 11` of the springelock are adapted to overlap the flange 3 of the cover and flange f2a of the tray at that end opposite the Yend where the hook-shaped clamps are arranged and as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

1n order that the tray 1 can be mounted upon the window sill or similar support, one side of the tray carries a pair of L-shaped pivoted clamps 16, of a construction similar to the clamps shown in our co-pending applications. Y

In lieu of employing the pivoted clamps 16, pivoted pointed members 17 may be employed for securing the holder in position. The members 17 are pivoted to the bottom of the tray and are adapted to be swung outwardly and engage the frame as shown in F ig. 4.

When the clamps 16 are used, they are adapted to be engaged by a window sash for retaining the holder upon the window sill.

The holder with the adhesive paper thereon with suitable material to attract the flies is mounted or suspended at the desired position. The openings between the slitted portions of the cover 4 are suiiiciently large to readily admit the flies and the openings 5a through the slitted portions admit sutcient light within the interior of the holder which will assist in attracting the Hies.

The cover 4 can be easily and quickly clamped upon the tray 1. To remove the cover 4 it is only necessary to pull outwardly upon the handle 12, raise the clamps and then slightly slide the cover longitudinally until the book-shaped clamps near the edge of the tray l, the cover can be then readily moved.

The cover as well as the tray are made of non-corrosive material and suitably finished to present a neat appearance.

Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, is g- 1. A paper holder comprising a tray adapted to support a strip of paper, pointed members pivotally connected to the bottom of said tray for retainingisaid tray upon a suitable support, a slitted cover mounted upon the tray, wires connecting the slitted edges of said cover, a handle carried by one of said wires, hook shaped clamps carried by one end of said cover for engaging one end of the tray, a spring held yoke carried by the opposite end of said cover for engaging the tray, and means for guiding said yoke within said cover.

2. A paper holder comprising a tray adapted to support a strip of adhesive paper, pointed members pivotally connected to the bottom of said tray for retaining said tray upon a suitable support, a dome-shaped slitted cover mounted upon the tray, wires connecting the slitted edges of said cover, hook shaped clamps carried by one end of said cover for engaging one end of the tray,

a spring held yoke carried by the opposite end of said cover for engaging the tray, and means for guiding said yoke within said cover.

3. A paper holder comprising a tray, a dome-shaped cover located thereon and having slits formed therein to provide openings, hook-shaped clamps carried by one end of said dome-shaped cover for engaging the cover, and a spring held yoke carried by said dome-shaped tray for engaging the tray and retaining said dome-shaped cover upon the tray.

A holder comprising a tray, a domeshaped slitted cover mounted upon the tray and further provided with openings, clamps permanently carried by said cover and adapted to engage one end of said tray for coupling the cover and tray together, and a spring controlled means carried by the cover and adapted to engage the opposite end oi'' said tray for coupling the tray and cover together.

5. A paper holder comprising a tray, a cover mounted upon the tray and provided with openings, clamps permanently carried by one end of the cover and engaging one end of the tray for coupling said ends together and longitudinally shiftable means permanently carried by the cover and engaging one end thereof and the opposing end of the tray for coupling said ends together.

6. A holder, comprising a tray, a cover adapted to be mounted thereon and provided with openings, clamps carried by one end of the cover and engaging the opposing end of the tray for coupling said ends together, and a longitudinally shiftable spring controlled releasable means carried by the cover, engaging one end thereof and the opposing end of the tray for coupling said ends together.

7. A holder comprising a tray, a cover adapted to be mounted thereon and provided with openings, clamps carried by one end of the cover and engaging the opposing end of the tray ends together, a longitudinally shiftable spring controlled releasable means carried by the cover, engaging one end thereof and the opposing end of the tray for coupling said ends together, and means carried by the cover for guiding said releasable means when operating the same.

8. A paper holder comprising a tray, a cover mounted thereon and provided with slits and openings, clamps carried by the cover for coupling one end of the tray thereto,V and a longitudinally shiftable means extending through the cover and engaging the other end of the tray for coupling it thereto, and means carried by the cover for guiding said spring held means during its operation.
