IMPROVEMENT IN .roURNALs The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID R. QUICK, of New York city, in the county ol' New York, and State of New York, have invented4 a new and valuable Improvement in J ournal-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference bein-g had to the annexed drawings, making apart of this specification, and to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1, of the drawings, is a plan view of my in- `vention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same.
Figures 3, 4, and 5, are details.
My invention relates to journal-boxes5 and' It consists, mainly, in a novel arrangement of devic-es intended to serve as efficient means for the purpose named.
The letter A, of the drawings, represents a shaft, arranged in my journal-box;
Letter B, the hanger; and
Letter O, the box.
My l journal-box is constructed in two sections, marked respectively aand c upon the drawings, each of which has an opening, s, through which the hanger is passed, and a semicircular opening, c, through which the shaft passes. These two semicircular openings v, when united, serve to clasp the shaft, and hold it firmly iu place.
It will be observed that the openings s are made at right angles with the openings lv.

I usually place a thin metallic washer between the nut n and a ling, y. Such a washer is shown on the drawings, at the point h.
In the manufacture of these-boxes, care must be taken to placev suitable boxings at each end of theopenings "v, in order to prevent unnecessary wear thereon.
Washers of wood will serve a valuable purpose, ifA j properly arranged, at the point h.
