Description

Patented Deo.28, 1909.

JOI-IN DLUGOPOLSZKY, 0F NILES, OHIO.
BURNER.
Application led September 3, 1909.
T o all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, JOHN Dnucoronszxr a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Niles, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new i and useful Improvements in Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to gas burners and the object of the invention is to provide a l gas burner with a novel auxiliary mixer l adapted to cooperate with the ordinary l mixer in producing a better admixture of l as and air.
Another object of the invention is to prol vide a burner with a direct inlet pipe to the i mantle, said pipe being independent of the mantle or shade holder'. i
With the above and other objects in view i the invention consists in the novel construch tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described in detail and i then claimed. i
Reference will now be had to the drawing` l forming a part of this specification wherein L there is illustrated a preferred embodiment l of the invention, but it must be understood that the structural elements thereof can be varied or changed without departing from l the spirit of the invention. 1
In the drawing z-Figure 1 is a side eleva# l tion of the burner partly broken away and partly in section, Fig. 2 is a plan of a pori tion of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sec* tional view of the burner.
Considering the details of construction shown in the drawing, the reference numeral t 1 denotes a gas supply pipe provided with a needle valve 2 and air inlet casing 3, said i casing having the upper end thereof rei duced, as at 4. These parts are common to the ordinary type of gas burner and it has i been the policy heretofore t0 mount the mantle holder directly upon the reduced end l of the casing 3, but I have found that better results can be obtained in the intensity of alight by interposing an auxiliary air mixer Speccaton of Letters Patent.
, ported by said collar,

between the upper end of the casing 3 and the mantle of the burner. The auxiliary mixer comprises a pipe 5 mounted in the reduced end 4 of the casing 3, said pipe adjacent to the fixed end thereof having an annular flange or collar 6 upon which is adapted to rest a sleeve 8 of a less length than the pipe 5, said sleeve having the upper end thereof flared, as at 9 and connected to a three pronged spider 10 and a collar 11. Adapted to fit upon the collar 11 is a sleeve 12 of a mantle bracket 13 supporting a mantlev 141. The spider 1() is connected to an ornamental globe holder 15 adapted to surround the sleeve S and rest upon the collar 6.
The pipe 5 within the sleeve 8 is provided with av plurality of apertures 16, and the sleeve S is provided with oblong openings or slots 17, these slots when registering with the apertures 16 in the pipe 5 admitting additional air to the gas adapted to pass upwardly through the pipe 5 into the mantle 14e. By rotating the sleeve 8 upon the pipe 5, the apertures 16 can be closed by that portion .of the sleeve 8 between the longitudinal edges of the slots 17 Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
In a gas burner, the combination with a` gas supply pipe, and an air mixer carried thereby, of a pipe connected to said mixer, said pipe having apertures formed therein, a collar carried by said pipe, a sleeve surrounding said pipe and adapted to be supsaid sleeve having slots formed therein adapted to register with the apertures of said connection with the upper end of said sleeve l and adapted to support a mantle, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
