GURLING-TOOL.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERTHOLD KATZEN BERG, a citizen of the United States, and a. resident of New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curling-Tools, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates more particularly to a tool for curling feathers.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device whereby a person may readily curl feathers or parts of feathers, particularly ostrich feathers in a much better and quicker way than is ordinarily secured by the method employed for this purpose.

A further ob ect of the invention is to provide a simple tool which may be made of a single piece and so shaped and formed that the feathers or part thereof may be readily drawn between the same and the thumb to properly curl the same.

The invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claim at the end of the description.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the device; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a line ITI-TII of Fig. 1.

The tool 10 is provided with an enlarged end or head 11, a shank 12 and a suitable handle 13 to which the shank of the tool is held for convenience While using the same. The head 11 may be of any desired form.

As shown it flares outwardly and is curved, as at 14, and at its outer edge and in line with the shank or stem 12 is concaved, as at 15, to give a proper bearing surface for the feathers or parts thereof as the same is drawn between the curling edge 15 and the thumb. This curling edge may be formed at an angle or beveled with respect to the curved surface 14, as at 16, but said bevel portion should not be sharp enough to cut or injure the feather.

It will be understood that the shape of the curling head and the size thereof may be varied, and that the curling edge may be made concaved to any desired extent or otherwise made to adapt it for the purpose of curling ostrich and other feathers.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and efficient tool is provided whereby a person may readily curl ostrich or other feathers which become straightened through dampness or from other causes, and

that said tool is simple in construction and may be readily manipulated without de stroying or injuring the feathers.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A curling tool comprising a shank, a handle, and a curved enlarged and flared head, the outer edge of which is concaved and beveled and arranged in line with the shank of the tool.
