To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUSTIN D. HILL-nits, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roseville, in the county of Placer and State of California, have invented a new and useful Trunlt-llarncss; and I do hereby dcclare the following to be a full, clc.ar,'and exact description of the. invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maltc and use the same.
This invention pertains to a new and useful trunk harness, designed purposely for securely binding and holding the lids of trunks. during shipment, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and etficient device of this nature, comprising novel structural details, and'which may be easily manipulated by an owner of a trunk, in order to haveaccess to the interior thereof.
A further obje t of the invention is to provide. slides or protectors, through which the various straps of the device extend, and which may be located at the corners of the trunk, thereby preventing wear and tear upon that portion of the straps which would otherwise engage said corners. This fastener may vary in size in order that it may be titted about 'arious sizes of trunks, and if the trunk be very small, there may be. only one strap employed in connection with a protector.
The features and elements and the arrangement thc'rcot, for :u-complishing the objects of this de\ice or apparatus, may be changed and varied, that is to say, in an actual reduction to practice; the understanding, however, is that the. changes and variations accruing from said reduction to practice are comprehended by the appended claim.
To obtain a full and correct understanding of the details of construction, combinations of features, elements and advantages. reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth description and the accompanying drawings in connection therewith. whcrein- Figure l is a perspective view of a trunk. about which the invention is applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a smaller trunk, about which only one strap extends. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of one of the junctions between the various straps. Fig. 4 is a sectional View through one of the corners of the trunk upon line at-A of Fig. 1, showing 1n section the protector for the straps. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the protectors.
In regard to the annexed drawings, 1 denotes a trunk, about whi h a plurality of straps 2 extend. The junctions 3 of the various straps are provided with holders 4 in order to prevent displacement of the straps. The ends 5 of'each strap are provided with buckles (3. through which the other ends of the straps pass, there being a plurality of suitable apertures i' in the other ends of the straps to be engaged by the tongues 8 of the buckles.
.Heretofore, there has been ctmsiderable wear upon straps or other suitable means, by the corners of trunks engaging them at various locations: and to obviate this undue wear upon straps of this design, a suitable piotector 9 is supplied in the presentinstance, which engages the corners of the trunk, and through which the straps extend. These protectors, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprise two hinged members )0 and 11,
which engage the flat surfaces of the trunk,
as will be clearly manifest. These protectors may be of such a size as to frictionally engage the straps. in order that displacement of them is obviated, that is to say, prior to the time the various straps are applied to the trunk. 7
From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation ot'the' device, together with the simplicity thereof, will be clearly apparent.
Having thus fully described the inven-I' tion, what is claimed as new and 'nsefnl,is.
In a trunk harness. the combination of a. plurality of straps crossing at points forming junctions, holders for said junctions, protectors comprising hinged membersearricd by the st raps and designed to engage the corners of a runk in order to relievecxcessivc \vcar upon the straps.
