Letters-Patent No. 94,096, dated August 24, 1869,
IMPROVE!) BUREAU-DRAWER.
The Schedule referred to in these LetterePatent and making part of the same.
. To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAURICE FITZGIBBONS, of New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a' new and valuable Improvement in Bureau-Drawers; and Ido hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact de.- seription of the construction and operation of 'the same, reference being bad-to thel annexed drawings, making a part of this. specification, and to thevIetters and figures of reference markedthereon.`
Figure'l ofthe drawings is a representation of; a longitudinal section of my drawer/i Figure 2 is a vertical section and Figure 3 is a crosssection of the saine.
My invention relates to drawers for bureaus; and
1t consists in lining the same withSpanishfcedar veneering,l to keep away moths, vand also in providing means for rendering the same air-tight, at the wili'of the operator.
I construct mydrawer in the usual manner, of wood,
and line it throughout WithSpanish-cedar veneering,A cut wit-b the grain of the timber in the' same manner dredth of an `inch in thickness.
This cedar lining is shown by the. red lines on the drawing, and is marked cthereon'. I next construct a cover for' ;the drawer, marked c on the drawings, extending from the rear to lapoint eloselythet no air onfind access through the joints. I then construct alid, and hingeit tothe part last uesses'.
it shall t `closely within the front 'side of the drawer, at its top, as shown at s.
Finally,- I prepare strips of gnmmed cloth or paper of suitable lengtlrand width, to cover, and enclose the rim of the lid, and uniting the vsame to the top of the drawer renders the entire drawer air-tight.
' The gnmmed strips ofcloth or paper are intended -fer use-only when the furs or. other garments' liable to be attacked by moths are 'to be stored away for the summer. When such clothing is in daily or ocoasionai use, the odor'of the cedar furnishes suiicieht'protection against those troublesome insects.
Notonly does thih cedar lining protect the garments stored in the drawer against moths, but vitz-also s erv i s to give an odor to' such garments that is wholesome and agreeable. l
I do not claim as my invention the lining of the drawerwithicedar, as I am aware that drawers, boxes,
and furniture have been made of cedar ;4 out WhatI claim as my by Letters Patent, is-
A bureau-drawer, lined with Spanshlcedan of the vconstruction mentioned; and having a cover, o, lid s,
and gummed strips, as described,` arranged, and operating, substantially as' and for the purposes specified.
- In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two'wit'- MAURICE FrrzGIBBoNs;
Witnesses:
