SPICE-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9,1909.
Application filed December 28, 1908. Serial No. 469,679.
a paper box, preferably formed of a'singlev blank, the end portion beingconstructed with indentations adapted to be converted into perforations. The cooperating end flaps are formed to expose this indented section. vAlso, preferably, the box is provided with another indented section, capable of being detached to form an opening when the device is intended to hold spices which cannot-be shifted.
The features of the invention are more fully set forth in the description of the ac-' companying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which j Figure 1 represents. a plan view of the blank. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the sifting end of the box. Fig. 3 shows the end flaps in process of being folded to close I the top.
In the blank, Fig. 1, 1, 2, represent the broad sections and 3, 4, the narrow sections of theblank separated by scored lines.
5 represents a pasting side flap on section 2.
6, 7 .8, 9', represent, respectively,.the ex tensions from the lower end of the blank, adapted to be folded in upon the bottom.
10, ll, 12, 13, represent the top extensions of the sections 3, l, 1, 2, respectively. The
17 represents a detachable section of the side 4. This may be removed when the contents of the box'are'of a character which cannot be sifted.
In closing the top, the sections 10, 12, are folded together, the notches '14 forming between them an oblong opening conforming to and registering with the orifice 15, and both orifices register with the indented section 16 of the flap 11.
Whenthe box is tobe used as a sifter, it is only necessary to press'inwardly upon the indented sections with a pointed instrument and a series; of sifting orifices will be formed.
Having described my invention, I claim A blank for a spice-box comprising four sides defined by a scored line, each side having the transverse folding top. section, the first top section being formed with a central orifice, the second and fourth top sections being formed with corresponding notches adapted when these sections are folded together to form an orifice registering with the. I
first-named .orifiee, and thefourth folding top section being formed with a' series 0f indentations for sprinkling perforations adapted to register with the underlying orifice of the first three top sections. I In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
I EMIL FRANK. Witnesses:
