Description

iiniied 'Sia-tet para can.
Lette/rs Patent No. 93,930, dated August 17, 1869.
IMPROVED SHUTTER-FASTEN IN G.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the saune.
To all whom (it may concern:
. 'Be it known that I, Amos Wnsroor'r, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, and State of New York, have invented a new andimproved Catch for any small double doors; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invent-ion relates to a fastener for windowshutters, cupboard-doors, and otherdevices requiring to be held in an open or closed position.; and
It consists in the combination of the partsof which it is composed, as-'will be more fully described hereinafter.
lo enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. v
I construct avmetal face-plate, marked A, Figure 2, of any convenient size and shape, which I fasten to the inside, and near its front edge, of that one of a pair of' small double doors which isV .closed first, as shown by A in Figure j A Freni a small hole in the centre of this face-plate A, fig. 5, .there projects inwardly a stem, markedG, more clearly shown by the same letterin iig. 2, terminating at its inner end in a hook, which, when the door is closed, catches into a notch, or other equivalent holding, underneath, and near the frontedge of a shelf, as represented by M, iig.
rIhis 'stem i's attached at its outer end to the centre of a lever on the other side of the faceplate,.as more clearly shown in Figure 4.
A little at one side of this stern G, fig. 5, or more generally a little below, projecting inwardly through a hole in the face-plate A, is a small knob or projection, marked H, iig. 5, which is fastened to or forms a part of one arm of. a lever on the other side of the faceplate, shown more clearly in iig. 4, and which, when pressed in, releases the hook from its holding.
In Figure 1 is represented the reverse side of the face-plate A, g. 5, with its attachments.
From the centre of this side of the face-plate A, iig.
:1, rises perpendicularly a hollow post, marked C, fig. 1 more clearly shown in Figure 3slotted from its top to near its base, or to the surface of the face-plate, the slot being about equal in width to the knob H, iig. 4, and its sides in line with the sides of the hole, marked S, lig. 3, through which the knob H projects.
In this slot, and'. at right angles to the post, is placed the irregular-shaped lever, marked E, iig. 1, more clearly shown in iig. 4, and secured in its place in this slot by the pin I, lig. 1,-which forms the fulcrum about which the lever can turn as far as required.
Upon the other side of the post O, fig. 3, opposite the hole S, tig. 3, there rises from the surface of the faceplate, perpendicular thereto, the pin, marked B,
tig. 3, far enough to reach through a hole in the other arm of the lever, marked F, figs.1 and 4. g
Underneath this arm ofthe lever, `and surrounding theV pin B, is a small spiral spring, marked K, fig. '1, which all the time tends to press the arm F ofthe lever away from the surface of the face-plate A, as shown in nge-1.
It will readily be observed, 'from the above descrip.- tion, that when knob H, tig. 2, is pushed in, the amr of the lever E, to which it is attached, will be raised from the surface'of the face-plate A, g. 1, and the other arm ofthe same lever, marked F, iig. 1, will-be brought nearer the surface of the face-plate, and the stem G, fig. 1., will be released from the holding, marked M, iig. 5, and the door to which it is attached can be opened. v
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters atent, is-
The combination of the lever E, havingthe projections lF G H, when pivoted upon the projection G cast upon the plate A, and spring K, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
