CECIL R. ANDERSON, OF BELLEVUE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LAMP-HOLDING- ATTACHMENT FOR MINERS CAPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1909.
Application filed March 29, 1909. Serial No. 486,308.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CEoIL R. ANDERSON,
a resident of Bellevue, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Holding Attachments for Miners Caps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, eflicient and inexpensive lamp holder for miners caps, and the object is to so arrange and unite the part-s as to simplify and cheapen the construction and at the same time strengthen the holder and make it more durable than heretofore.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved device in position on a cap. Fig. 2 is a rear face view of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section. Figs. 4 and 5 are cross-sections on lines A l and 5-5, respectively, of Fig. 3.
In the present adaptation, the holder or bracket is formed of a strip of sheet metal bent to provide a vertical or upright portion 2, the forwardly and downwardly bent lower part 3 which is attached to the vizor, and the backwardly turned upper portion 4 which is riveted to the top of the cap. The angle or turn at the juncture of parts 2 and i is preferably in the form of a forwardly projecting roll 5, and reinforcing parts 2 and 5 both beneath and backwardly from this roll is the similarly shaped angular plate 6. The usual slot 7 is formed through the roll to receive the hook of the lamp, the downwardly extending prong of which projects through the perforation 8 in the top part.
The edges of front part 2, lower part 3, and top part 4 are folded inwardly in seam fashion, as indicated at 9, and confined beneath these inwardly turned edges is the insulating sheet fiber 10. The edges of angular plate 6 are also extended beneath the folded edges 9, and said folded edges, together with the fiber and plate 9 confined therebeneath, are grooved or beaded longitudinally, as indicated at 9, thus securely fastening all of the parts in their assembled relation, and rendering it quite impossible for either the fiber or plate 9 to work loose or become displaced. At the same time the grooved or beaded edges materially stiffen or strengthen the sheet metal holder or bracket and render it more durable. No rivets or other holding devices are required other than those for securing the bracketto the cap.
I claim 1. A lamp holder for miners caps consisting of a sheet metal bracket having inwardly folded longitudinal edges, a reinforcing plate for the bracket having its edges extending into the folds, the said folded edges and the confined edges of the reinforcing plate being beaded or grooved for holding the parts together and stiffening the bracket.
2. A lamp holder for miners caps consisting of a bracket bent backwardly at its upper end to connect with the cap, the bracket having inwardly folded longitudinal edges, and an angular plate fitting around the bend of the bracket with the edges of the plate extending within the said folded edges, said folded edges and the edges of the angular plate confined thereunder being beaded or grooved.
3. A lamp holder for miners caps c011- sisting of a bracket having its lower end bent forwardly and downwardly to connect with the vizor of the cap and its upper end bent backwardly to connect with the top of the cap, the longitudinal edges of the bracket being folded, fiber confined at its edges within the folds, and a plate fitted to the bracket at the upper bend with the edges of the plate extending within the bracket folds, said folds with the fiber therebeneath and the confined edges of the plate being grooved or beaded.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CECIL It. ANDERSON. Witnesses J. M. Nnsnrr, ALEX. S. MABON.
