BAZOB-S'IRO'EFING DEVICE.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it 'known that I, MORRIS GALLAs, acitizen of the- United States of America, and resident of Gincinnati,'county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor- Stropping Devices, of which the following is a specification.
and inwhich either one of two edges ofa.
blade may be stroppedreadily and efiiciently.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bladeholder into which the blade may be=*easily and firmly inserted. This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,'.in which,
'. .Figure 1 1s a front elevation'ofa razor ,stropping device embodying my mvention.
- Fig. 2'is a side elevation of the same. Fig.
31s a sectional view taken uponthe line 33 of Fig. 1.- Fig. 4fis 'a perspective view of the blade casing, Fig. 5 is a detail view of the blade. I The razor stropping device consists of end plates, A, A, supphed with a hanger, a, and between which are mounted three friction rollers, B, B, and B Spaced at a distance from the roller, B, journal studs,
' d, d, are j'ournaled in the plates, A, A;
Mounted in the plate, A", between thefric tion roller, B, and the journal stud, d, is a cured .uponits end a gear pinion, b. Jour-' Y nal stud, d, has'secured upon its end a gear stud shaft (1'. Friction roller B has sepinion, (1 and stud shaft, 0', has secured upon its end an intermediate gear pinion, a
which intermeshes with gear pinions, I al and b, An ordinary razor. strop, H, is to be 5 inserted between the friction roller, B, and Y the journal studs, d, d, and is to bear against the friction rollers, B, B Upon the' journal studs, d, d, a, blade holder, D, is secured.
Blade holder, D, ismade from a sheet .of
' metal which is curved'to'form sides,d d,
whose meeting edges are held together "by the springin the metal.- The sheet of metal cut away at the U-bend of the metal, leavizng open edges between which the blade casing, E, may be in'serted, but leaving the U bend of-the metal intact at d, df, to form the ends, 03, (i are secured. The sides, (1 d, have notches, or thumb holes, d, d,
l a seat for the journal studs, 01,41, to which i cut centrally at their separated edges. vAdjacent'to the meeting edges the holder has stop lugs, d d projecting inwardly,-as in- -dicated in dotted line Fig. l, to contact with the lugs upon the ends of the blade casing.
The blade casing, E, consists of twoplates, 0, and e ,which. have lugs at each of their ends, the lugsat one of theends being formed into a hinge, 6 Plate, e, has inwardlyprojecting circular-studs, e, e, and plate, a, hasperforations, c 6, situated so as to register with the studs, a 0, when the casing is closed. The blade, G, has perforations, 9,9, to fit over'the studs, e e and has knife edges, g g
In use, a razor blade being inserted in the casing, E, and the plates of the casing being {closed together, the casing is inserted between the open edges of the holder, D, and pushed inward until the lugs of the casing engage the stop lugs, d ydf, of the holder,'D'. The hanger, a, having been engaged with any suitable fixed hook, or such other stationary device, the sti'op is drawn 'toward the person stropping the device Looking. at Fig. 3, supposing the strop to be drawn in the direction of the arrow-it causes the roller, B, to rotate in the same direction untilthe blade is brought into contact with the strop by the rotation of the friction roller, 'B, being conveyed through the intermediate gear wheel, (1 to the Stud, (1. Further motion of the strop. in the same direction causes the blade to be held firmly in contact with the strop. The friction rollers,- B, B are spaced in. a relation to the friction roller, Bf, such as to present the strop at the proper angle to the blade. Whenthe strop is drawn in a direction opposite to, the
holder about the journal'studs, d, (1, so as to cause it to contact the strop'betwee'n the friction rollers, B" and B Thus the edge, a, of the blade may be stroppedupon each si e.
When a isdesired to strop t pp ds 10 naled between the plates upon opposite sides of the first friction roller which is positioned between the second friction rollers and theblade holder. v
. 2. The combination of a blade holder for 15 a razor stropping device consisting of two metal plates held yieldin y together at one edge and held apart at t ei r opposite edges and hav ng inward-1y projecting studs near their converging edges, and a casing for the blade consisting of plates having his proj'ecting from their ends and adapte to engage the studs when the casin is inserted n the holder so as to permit the lade to proect properly beyond theconverging edges of the holder.
