To all 'whom it may concern:
clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to Vthe letters of reference marked'thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view` of the invent-ion, and Figure 2 is a sectionalview, showing, in perspective,

The nature-of our invention consists in cutting dies with adjustable guides attached tothe stationary die, and fastening said dies to tinners bench-shears for the purpose of notching tin, as will be hereinafter morefully set forth.
To enable others skilled inthe art to `make and use our invention', we will proceed to describe its construc-v tion and operation.
In the construction of our invention, in iig. 1,
A represents the work-bench, into Iwhich is set the shears B, in the ordinary manner, and to which is attached our invention.
a is the lower die, which is fastened to the lower or stationary arm or handle of the shearspby screws l, 2, and 3.
b, the rear movable gauge, for regulating width of the notch cut from the side of the tin or metal. It.
has a slotout in it, through which screw 1 passes, and on which, when required, it slides. Then the screw is tight-lydrawn and remains so until yit becomes neces sary to change the Width of the notch.
c, the front gauge, constructed with a slot, also, to allow it to be movedup and down, as required, to determine the length-of the notch cut outof the material. With the present die, a notch can be cnt out fully aninch in size. f
nl is simply a corresponding cutting-die made to correspond in shape with the stationary die, and is securely attached, by screws, tothe 4moving-.arm of the shears. This die isseen in Afig. 2.
In the operation of our invention, it is intended to supply a much-felt want in the trade to which it appertains.
It is well known that in making ware with a rim on the top edge strengthened by inverting wire therein, it is necessary to notch the upper ends ofthe edges that are vsoldered together, to prevent the sides from being double where the edge is turned over the wire. The sides have to he notched, and to do this, ordinarily, there is a great-dealof labor and time wasted, as the trade has no gaugev by which to do, and 1n order to make all the notches alike and a good fit, compasses must be used to space vthe notch to be cut out; but,
with our invention, we attach it to the common bench shears, and set the gauges b and c to suit the required size we wish to cut out; and with our inventionLA set as required, the different pieces are out all of a uniform size for all vessels of any given quantity, and the dies and gauges will remain at that fixed size of notch until it isnecessary to change the size of the notch to be out, which can be immediately done by changing the gauges b and c, by loosening the screws and sliding the gauges, as required, either to enlarge or lessen the size of 'the notch.-

the Wire is inserted as is common in the trade, jwhen the vessel can be completed.
By means o f our invention, we can make a much more` correct inish, and save labor and time in doing so.
