PRESENTED BY Q DEALERS IN tiarran omens BILL-EILE OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Ifatent.
Patented Got. it woe.
1, 1909. Serial Ito. 4.15.314.
To all trim-m. it may concern:
Be it known that l. FRANK J. Knrsrormt. a cit'iZen ot' the l nited States. residing at (.oshocton. in the county of Coshocton and State oi ()hio. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill-Files or thc liike. of which the following is a specification.
My invention aims to provide a cheap and at the same time ell'ective and convenient file or book for bills. memoranda or the like,"
which is especially adapted for advertising purposes. and which can be conveniently packed for shipment.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a face elevation of the same in the position of packing and shipment; Fig. 2 is a pcrs -cctive view in the position o't' use; Fig. is a horizontal section through the supporting device in the position of Fig. Fig. l is a detail.
Referring to the embodiment of the in vention illustrated. the support for the hook is a card preferably provided with a hole 15 the edge of which is leint'orced by a ring, and by which the device may be hung up. This card is large enough to carry a substantial quantity of advertising matter. and praet'icallv the entire face thereof is ex posed when the device is in use. A wire hook l) is carried by the card either in the position of Fig. 1 in which it rests liat against the card without projecting beyond any of its edges so that it can be safely packed and shipped without injury and in th m lle t ossible spacetor in the position of Fig. 2 in which'it stands out from the face of the card so as to permit. the application of bills. mcmoranda or the like thereon, and substantially below the card. so that the. bills or memoranda carried on the hook do not cover the advertising matter.
The book has a shank E which slides up and down through a substantially tubular member i and in which the shank can also turn so as to assume either of the two de-- sired positions. The and is shipped as bevt'ore stated with the hook in the 'positionot' Fig. I. When it is to he used the hook and shank are pulled down. and the book then turned outward from the card, after which it is autonmtit'rally held in this outward position by a locking device comprising a lateral projection G on the upper end of the shank,
l which takes into a recess adjacent to the tubular member F and preventsrotation of the shank by any ordinary strains. After it is once put into use. the bills or memoranda on the hook also tend to prevent its turning to its fiat. 1) position. In order to provide a strong support for the hook and at the same time a means for locking it in. the operative position. a plate H of metal is tened on the lower part of the card lay means of bent prongs J passing through the card, and this plate provided with a reinforcing rib K, and with an opening L in its lower part: and an opening M at its upper etlgc. The tubular member F is formed of a strip of metal with its ends bent together and passed through the opening L of the plate It. and bent apart at the back as shown in Fig. 3. The opening M in the upper edge of the plate H is to accommodatethc rearward projection G at the upper end of the shank in the position of Fig. 2. This rearward projection springs easily into the notch in the plate H. and this notch is so near to the tubular member i that the shank is held with reasonable stitincss. Preferably the card also is provided with a notch N. forming when the parts are assembled a slight extension of the notch M in the metal plate and accommodating the lateral projection G of the shank of the hook.
- What I claim is In a device of the character deeribed, a card .\,a metal )late H mounted thereon. a tubular member F carried by said card and plate, a hook 1') having a shank E carried inv said tubular meridian; and a lateral projection G on the rear of said shank, said plate having a notch M and said card a. notch N into which said lateral projection may he introduced to prevent the rotation of the shank, said plate having a reinforcing rib a; and
)rongs J on the edge of said plate hastening it to said card, and having a lower opening IA, the ends'ot the tubular member 1* hein passed through said opening L and throng 1 the card and bcrt apart at the back to fasten the tube in place. I
In witness whereof, I have hereunto si ned my name in the presence of two snbscri ing' witnesses.
l ititlx' ii a. ittlStUlrllK. 'ii 'itneaaes 7:). lonnnnnn, Lona SMLTH.
