Description

T. L. BACON.
ADJUSTABLE STAND.
APPLIOATION FILED SEPT. 2B. 1908.
Patented Oct. 5, 190:,
UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS L. BACON, OF DENVER, COLORADO;
ADJUSTABLE srnnni Specification of LettersI'at ent.
Patented Oct. 5,
Application filed Septeniber 28, 1908. Serial No. 455,140.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. BACON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in thecounty of Denver and State of- Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Stands, of
which the -yfollowing is'a specification.
This invention relates to an adjustable stand for supporting lamps, glasses and! other small articles, and adapted to be clampedto the head post of a bed-stead, or the arm of a chair.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction, hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention applied to a bed post. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device, the post being in section.
a concaved plate 6, and the face ofthis plate may be padded or covered with cloth if desired in order to prevent injury to the polish of the post or chair arm.. Fromthe sleeve 4' also extends a flange 7 at right angles to the flange 5 and this flange has its inner face serrated by forming transverse grooves across the said face. The flange 7 is longitudinally slotted at 8, hereafter to be referred to. I
The clamp 3 is a right angled plate one member of which has its outer face serrated to engage the serrated face of thejflange 7 and this portion of the clamp section 3 is provided also with a threaded perforation which receives a set screw 9 which works through the slot 8 of the flange 7. The
members 2 and 3 together, the serrated faces preventing any movement between the two sections of the clamp relative to each other.
A bracket 11 substantially V-shaped is provided with an arm 12 which extends from its apex portion and is then bent at right angles to form a pivot pin 13 which pin fits within the sleeve 4 and rotates therein. The stand 14 preferably formed of asmooth square board or a thin metal plate withvslightly rounded corners is secured upon the bracket 11 by riveting or by means of screws, and completes the device. When used upon a chair arm the plate 6 bears upon one side of thearm and the recessed member 3 of the clamp upon the other side, the flange 7 resting across the outer end of the arm. I also provide the sleeve 4 with two transverse bores 15 and 16, placed ninety degrees apart,.and into which the pin 13 can be placed, so that the stand can be attached when the clamp is fastened in position other than thatshown in the drawings, and which enables the clamp to be applied to tables, aside rail of a bed, or to other articles of furniture.
hat I claim. is
. 1. A-device of the kind described comprising a sectional clamp formed of two mom bers, one of said members comprising a sleeve, flanges extending from said-sleeve and. at right angles to each other, a thumb screwworking through one of said flanges, a set screw working through the other flange, said last mentioned flange being slotted and the other member of theclamp comprising an angled plate one member of whichis provided with a threaded perforation to receive the set screw.
2. A device of the kind describedcomprising a clamp formed in twosections, oneof said sections comprising a right angled plate, one member of which is recessed upon its inner face, and the other member of which is serrated upon its outer face, the other section of the clam comprising a sleeve, flanges carried by sai sleeve and at ri ht angles to each other, one of said flanges being slotted longitudinally and serrated to e rated face of the first mentione section, a set screw working through the slot and threading into the serrated member of the first mentioned section, a thumb screw working through the other flange, a concaved plate carried by said thumb screw, said plate being opposite the recess of the first section, a
bracket stand, and an angled arm carried by agevthe ser- I said stand for engaging with the sleeve, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A device of the kind described comprising a sleeve having intersecting bores at right angles to each other, flanges extending from one side of said sleeve and at, right angles to each other, one of said flanges being provided with a perforated threaded boss, and
the other with a longitudinal slot, and a right angled plate adapted to grip a post and restin in the angle formed by said flanges, a t umb screw working through the boss, a ooncaved plate carried by the inner end of said thumb screw and cooperating with the opposing face of the right angled plate, a set screw Working through the slot of one of the flanges and engaging the right angled plate, and suitable stand supporting means in rotatable engagement with said sleeve.
