Description

, t PATENTBD MAY i 1907'. '0. N. STBENSTRUP. HOLDING PLIERS. APPLICATION FILED JUIJY17 1 908- Mmsssss UNITED STATES OLAF N. STEENSTRUP, OF MABEL, MINNESOTA.
PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1901 Application filed July 17, 1906. Serial K0. 326,558.
devices for holding small articles, while they are undergoing repair, and is particularly adapted to meet the wants of jewelers.
The object of my invention is to provide holding pliers for the use of jewelers, opticians and others, simple in construction, cheap in manufacture, efficient in operation and susceptible of a wide range of adjustment.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best mode now known to me of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a plan view showing my new pliers holding a pair of spectacles; Fig. 2 is a side View of my new pliers; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line A A, of Fig. 1.
The holding fingers a are each provided with a guide-pin b and a threaded stud 0 each of which projects upwardly from the face of the fin er. Mounted on the working end of each 0 the fingers a is a clamp-plate d provided with apertures through which pass the guide-pin b and the stud c. A nut e engages the end of the stud c and serves to adjust the pressure of the clamp-plate upon the article held. From the other end of each of the fingers a projects a threaded stud f which passes upwardly through an aperture in the base of an L-shaped bracket 9 the vertical leg of which is slotted, as shown at h, Fig. 2. The threaded stud f is engaged by a nut '11 be- My invention relates to improvements in j tween which and the shank end of the finger a is held the Lshaped bracket g. The two brackets g are secured together by the pin 1' and its cooperating nut 7c.
As will be obvious without further description, the fingers a may be set at any angle to each other by rotating the fingers, or one of them, about the stud f. The fingers may be raised or lowered into different horizontal planes by loosening the nut 7c and sliding the L-shaped brackets 9 past each other; or, the finger may be rotated upon the pin as a pivot to throw its working end up or down, as desired.
I claim:
1. The combination with a pair of cooperating holding fingers and clamping devices mounted thereon, of a pair of L-shaped brackets in the base of each of which is pivotally mounted the shank end of one of said cured directly together.
2. The combination with a pair of cooperating holding fingers and clamping devices mounted thereon, of a pair of L-shaped brackets in the base of each of which is pivotally mounted the shank end of one of said fingers and the leg of one of which is formed with a slot; and a securing device mounted in said slot for holding said legs in adjusted position; said legs being capable of lengthwise adjustment and of being rotated about said device to raise and lower the working ends of said fingers with respect to each other.
Dated at said Mabel, this 13th day of July, 1906, in the presence of two witnesses.
