GUSTAF ENANDER, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
BOOK-SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAF ENANDER, a citizen of Sweden, and a resident of Worcester,
and it is carried out as follows, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawings, wherein a Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device,
showing the, lower portion thereof in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line '2 2 shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 3 3 shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
A, in Fig. 1, represents the side ofa chair or other furniture to which a clamp B is adapted to be secured by means of a thumb-screw C, screwed through the lower portion of the said clamp B and preferably provided with a head or button D, adapted to be held against the under side of the furniture by the thumbscrew C, as shown in Fig. 1. To an upward extension of the-clamp B is pivotally connected a depending extension of an adjustable head E by means of a pivot-bolt F, passing loosely throughthe extension of the clamp B and the extension ofthe head E. The bolt F has one end screw threaded, and upon said screw threaded end is mounted a nut G, which is adapted to secure the head E in position from movement after it has been adjusted to the desired position. Thehead E is provided with a recess forming a socket the wall of which is screw-threaded, and the said screw-threaded socket is adapted to receive the screw- 5 clamping-screw L extends through the members I K for adjustably securing the clamp to Specification of.Letters Patent.
Application filed September 20, 1904:. Serial No. 225,242.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
the rod H. A nut Mis mounted upon the screw-threaded end of the element L. The member L is provided with a screw-threaded socket in which is secured the screw-threaded end of the horizontally-extending rod N, on which is pivotally connected a book or other supporting plate 0, as shown. In practice I secure to the under side of the plate 0 suitable sockets P P, the latter being provided with a' set-screw or similar fastening device 10 for the purpose of securing the plate O in any desired inclined position relative to the rod N. By this device the bracket B can readily be secured to any desired portion of a chair or other furniture. By adjustment of the nut G the rod H can be swung to any desired angular position relative to the bracket B and secured in such position by tightening the nut Gr. The plate-supporting rod N may now be vertically adjusted on the rod H and secured thereto by the clamp I K and nut M and the table 0 turned 'to any inclined position on said rod 0 and secured in such position by the set-screw p, as shown.
The device is very simple in construction,
a clampiadapted to be secured to a suitable support and provided with an upward extension, a head having a depending extension arranged parallel with the upward extension of the clamp, means extending through the said extensions for adjustably connecting the head to the clamp, said head having a screw-threaded socket, a vertically-extending rod having its lower portion screw-threaded and engaging n the screw-threaded socket of the head for connecting the rod to the head, a horizontally-extending rod adjustably connected to said vertically-extending rod, said horizontally-extending rod vertically adjustable upon said vertically-extending rod, a pair of, grooved members bearing against said vertically-extending rod, a clamping screw extending through the members for adjustably connecting them to said vertically-extending rod, one
In testimony whereof I have :ti'fiXCd my signature in presence of two \VliJDOSSGS.
GUSTAF ENANDER.
