Description

June 7, 1949. J. 'HUHN, JR 2,472,480
CLOTHES RACK Filed Nov. 22, 1946 Full.
INVENTOR. ddhn Hu/m Patented June 7, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to supports and specifically to racks or supports for articles of clothing or other articles after ironing.
Among the objects of the invention is a rack or support readily attachable and detachable from an ironing board but which may be left fixed in place and folded flat with the board so as to permit the latter to be stored.
Another object is to provide a rack or support which is readily erected from its flat position and rotated to prevent interference with the operator.
Still other objects and advantages will be ap parent to those skilled in the art upon reference to the following description and the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective View showing a portion of an ironing board with the support at tached and also its use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the support with a part in section.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4- 3 of Figure 3.
In the drawing a portion of an ironing board is indicated at ID with the support means fixed thereto. The support means comprises a C-clamp, indicated as a whole at H, adapted to embrace an edge of board I and fixed thereto by means of a clamp screw 12. The clamp II is, on its outer face, provided with a tubular boss 13 extending horizontally and supported by a web MA. The boss [3 is further provided with horizontally arranged openings M in its side walls and carries slidable therein a plug member I5 having an opening I6 adapted to register with the openings l4.
Plug I5 is provided with an axially arranged threaded shaft or screw I1 adapted to extend beyond boss 13 and cooperate with a nut is preferably shaped to form a hand operable knob and finished at its inner end to cooperate with and slide smoothly on the end of boss I3.
Into the openings I4 and I6 is inserted the lower end 20 of an upright member 2|, the lower end portion being arranged at a right angle to the upright portion 2!, and being fixed against rotation by tightening the nut or knob it. Near its upper end the upright member 2| is provided with a shallow groove 22, and seated upon this upper end is a cap member 23 provided with a, suitable thumb screw 24 adapted to enter the groove 22 to retain the cap against dislocation permit it to rotate or be fixed at the will of the user.
Fixed to cap 23 is a horizontally extending arm 25 adapted to serve as a support for the ironed articles 20.
In use, the operator will rotate the arm 25 to a suitable location and fix its position or not, according to individual preference. When the ironing has been completed and it is desired to store the board 10, the arms 21 and 25 may be folded flat against the board by loosening knob I8.
I claim:
A rack for ironed articles consisting of a 0- clamp adapted to be fixed to an ironing board, a cylindrical hollow boss on said clamp, a plug slidable therein, said boss and plug being provided with registering openings constituting a passage therethrough, an arm having a portion adapted to enter said passage, said arm normally extending vertically, and having a laterally extending branch, and means for moving relatively said plug and boss whereby to fix said arm portion against movement in said passage.
