Description
waited; tatea W. A. B OWYER, oF HEL-EN FURNAC'E, PENNSYLVANIA'.
ALetters Retain No. 93,405, dated August 10, 1869.
'nurnovnn 'Larme-Jeez.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters .Patent and making partoiih ASalim- Jack; and I do hereby declare-that the following is a' full, 'clear,'and .exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use -th'e same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Fignrell represents a side elevation of my improved .hoisting-jack.
Figure 2 is a front @view ofthe same.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.'
'lhis invention relates to a new hoisting-jack, which can be used to aid in loading timber npon wagons and for elevating other articles, and also for' a wagon-jack.
The invention consists in a new lever-arrangement for oper ating the slide, and also of a new timber-holding attachment.
Atrepresents the post on which the np-and-down adj nstable slide B is arranged.
This slide embraces the post with one or more straps h, as shown.
To the platform C, from which the post Avprojects, is pivoted the lower end of the lever D.
E is a rod pivoted" with one end to the lever D, while its other end o am'es a cross-pin', a, lwhich fits into one of a number ,of notchesprovided in the slide B, as shown.
A spring, b, projecting from the platform O, holds the upper end ofthe rod E in` its place. By swinging the lever up into a vertical position, the rod E will raise the slide. Y
A click, c, pivoted to the post A, will then lock the slide in the elevated position, while the lever is brought down, to carry the pin a into another lower notch,
The log to be elevated is held between one almd of an L-shaped frame, F, and a sliding hook, Q.
VThe shank of the hook is adjustable in or onthe arm d, to hold timberY of. diiferent size, and is fastened by a pin, g, as shown.
The other arm e, ofthe frame F,'is, slotted and providedtv'ith a cross-bar, f, that rests on the npperend of the'slide B.
On the frontend of the arm d, are pointed projections g, to bite into the log.
For awagon-jaek, the traine Fand appendages are dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The lifting-jack, consisting ofthe stand A, notched slide B, lever 1), rod E, spring b, and click e, all combined and operating substantially as herein shown and described.A
2. The combination of the L-,sbaped frame 14 and sliding hook G, with a lifting-jack, constructed and arrangedsubstautially as herein shown and described.
REV. W. A. BOWYER.
