T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES B. Cnoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Vashington and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in l Vagon-Box Corner-Irons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved wagon box 0 or body corner iron for securing the side boards and end boards or gates of a wagon box or body together and for also reinforcing thecorners of a wagon box or body, the object of the invention beingto provide an 5 extremely cheap and simple corner iron Which is reversible so that it can be used upon any corner of a wagon box or body and which presents no obstruction or projections at the corner of the box or body and is moreover adapted to be readily and cheaply manufactured from a single piece or plate of steel or iron.
In the accompanying drawings r-Figure 1 a perspective view partly in section of a i portion of a wagon body provided with a corner ironconstructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of one of my improved corner irons showing the inner side thereof. Fig. 3 i." a similar view showing the outer side thereof. Fig. at is a detail elevation of the bolt rod used in connection with my improved corner irons for securing the sides of the wagon body.
In the embodiment of the invention here shown my improved corner iron 1 is made from a single plate of iron, steel, or other suitable material, the said plate being rectangular in form, of suitable dimensions. In the making of my improved corner iron one end of the plate is provided with a pair of slits which extend for a suitable distance inwardly therethrough. The said plate is doubled and bent at a to form a doubled web or arm 2, the upper portion 3 of which is bent as at b to form an outer web 4 and the inner portion of which is bent at c to form an arm or web 5 which is parallel with and appropriately spaced from the outer web 4, the doubled web 2 being at right angles to the webs 4:, 5, said webs 4; and 5 being adapted to receive one of the side boards (Z of the wagon body between them andthe doubled web 2 being adapted to bear against the outer side of one end gate of the wagon body. That portion of the inner web 5 which lies between the slits hereinbefore mentioned bent at right angles to said web 5 and parallel with and spaced from the said web 2 to form an arm 6 which is adapted. to bear against the inner side of one end or end gate of the Wagon body. Openings 7 for the reception of the larger bolt or tie rod 9 are made in the webs &, 5, near the ends thereof so that the corner iron is adapted to be placed at any corner of the wagon body, the said corner iron being reversible as will be understood.
What is claimed is:--

ner said inner web having transverse slits near its ends extending from its outer edge to within a suitable distance of the doubled web, that portion of said inner web between said slits being bent parallel with the said doubled web and forming an arm to bear against the inner side of the gate or wagon box end.
