JOHN ROMSI-IE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DISPLAY-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14, 1909.
Application filed. January 9, 1909. Serial No. 471,469.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoI-IN RoMsHE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a display rack designed for holding and displaying such articles as post cards, cigars, cigarettes, and other small articles.
An especial object of the invention is a show case which will occupy a comparatively small floor space which can be moved from one part of a room to another, which revolves upon its movable support, and which can be opened out thus displaying the goods carried by it successively and in a horizontal position.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the case. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section upon the same line, the casing being shown in open position. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 3.
In these drawings, 1 represents a suitable base mounted upon casters, and upon which is revolubly mounted a supporting bracket 2 upon which bracket is firmly secured a suitable oblong base 3. The front and rear edges of this base are oppositely beveled as shown in the drawings and upon the base is mounted an upwardly and rearwardly inclined rectangular casing 4- The front of this casing is open and is provided with a glass cover 5 permanently secured in position. IVithin the casing and immediately to the rear of the glass cover 5 is placed an inclined back 6 designed to display upon its front face samples of the cards or other merchandise, which samples are visible through the glass front 5.
On the base 3 are transversely arranged parallel rack bars 7 the projections upon which have the same inclination as the glass front 5. Resting upon these rack barsand held in place by the projections upon them are a plurality of boards 8 which are held in place at the top by suitable locking means, such as spring pressed bolts 9 which engage suitable notches 9 formed in the top of the casing. It will be obvious that any simple and convenient form of catch may be employed.
A back 10 is hinged to the rear edge of the base 3 and carries a stop or brace bar 11 beveled to coperate with the rear edge of the base, and limiting the downward movement of the back 10, holding the same in horizontal position as shown in Fig. 3. A suitable fastening member 12 serves to lock the back in closed position.
Any suitable means such as wire or metal clips 13 are carried by the back and various members or leaves for the purpose of holding articles in place upon said leaves, and it will be obvious that the style of securing the device employed will depend upon the nature of the article to be held, a clip which would be suitable for post cards not being suflicient to hold cigar boxes in place. It will also be obvious that the case can be made in many different sizes and the space between the various leaves would vary with the nature of goods to be held, and it will also be obvious that any convenient number of leaves may be employed, depending upon the depth of the casing, and the size of the articles to be shown. The casing may be also either plain or of any ornamental design, according to the taste of the purchaser.
What I claim is 1. A device of the kind described comprising a pedestal a revolving bracket carried thereby, a casing supported by said bracket, said casing inclining upwardly and rearwardly a glass front for said casing, a hinged back, means for limiting open movement of the back, a plurality'of removable leaves held in said casing between the front and the back, and means for holding said leaves in place.
2. A device of the kind described comprising a movable pedestal, a bracket rotating upon said pedestal, an oblong base carried by said bracket, said base having front and rear edges beveled, an upwardly and rearwardly inclined casing supported by said base, a transparent front carried by the casing, a back hinged to said base, a beveled brace carried by the back and eoeperating with the rear edge of the case to form a stop for the base, rack bars carried by the base,
5 and a plurality of leaves resting upon said rack bars, means for locking the upper edges of said leaves in position, and means carried by said leaves for holding articles of men HAROLD O. KAPP, WALTER CANFIELD.
