J. WAYNE.
SHOW` CASE FIXTURE.
No. 556,483. Patented Mm. 17, 1896.
l Flai WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH IVAYNE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHOW-CASE FIXTU RE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,483, dated March 1?, 1896. Application filed July 9, 1895. Serial No. 555,428. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH WAYNE, a citi-r zen of the United States, residing at Phila delphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Oase Fixtures; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Myinvention relates to new and useful improvements in show-case xtures, as more fully described hereinafter and especially pointed out in the claims which are hereunto annexed.
The general characteristic features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a show-case, showing my improved device applied thereto for the purpose of supporting a number of articles of dierent shapes and size-such, for instance, as chamois or goat skins-for which purpose my device is more particularly adapted. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line x oc .of Fig. 1, the dotted lines in said figure show-.t
ing the position one of the supporting-rods will assume when it is desired to swing the said rod in position for the purpose of exhibiting the goods contained thereon. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the fixtures and supporting-frame removed from the showcase. Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of one of the supporting-rods, showing the hinged supporting-pivot at one end detached from the rod and the hook adapted to support the free end of the rod, as more fully explained hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a show-case having front and side constructed preferably of glass plates a a, supported by a metallic framework A', and having a solid top and bottom, preferably of wood, with a door A2 in rear hinged at one side to the metallic framework.
B is a supportingfframe having mounted upon one side a metal strip t, which forms a bearing for the pivots C', which carry the supporting-rods C. A number of these supportingerods C are pivoted to the metal strip b, and each of said supportingrods is slightly longer than the preceding one, as more clearly shown in Fig. 3. upon each of said supporting-rods C, to which are secured the hooks c c', upon which. the skins S are secured.
When the supporting-rods are folded up, as shown in solid lines in Figs. l, 2, and 3, the said rods are kept in alignment and prevented from sagging by means of the screwhooks d, one of which is clearly shown in the perf f spective in Fig. 4.
It will be readily seen that with a show-case provided with fixtures such asI have just de;
scribed the goods of the particular class previously referred to may be examined as to size and quality and compared without causing any trouble or loss of time, which would otherwise occur from regrading and sizing.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A fixture for show-cases comprising a frame mounted at the top of said show-case, supporting-rods of different lengths pivoted at one end to said frame, two or more stems depending from said supporting-rods, hooks connected to and projecting from said stems and hooks for holding the free ends of said supporting-rods, substantially as specified.
2. A fixture .for show-cases comprising a horizontal frame mounted at the top of ashowcase or other suitable supporting-frame, supporting-rods of different lengths pivoted to a plate mounted at one end of said frame, two or more stems depending from said supporting-rod, hooks connected to from said stems, and hooks for holding the free ends of said supporting-rods when the latter are in a closed position, all substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH WAYNE. Witnesses 1 J. E. CARPENTER, WALTER FAMARIss.
