Description

A. PETIGORE.
ADJUSTABLE FRAME.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 27. 1909.

ADJUSTABLE FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. "2, 1909.
Application filed January .27, 1909. Serial No. 474,619.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY PnTiconn, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Sedro lVoolley, in the county of Skagit and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in picture frames and has for its primary object the provision of an improved structure which can be adjusted to accommodate pictures of various sizes.
Other objects will be set forth as my description progresses and those features of construction, arrangements and combina tions of parts in which my invention resides, succinctly defined in my annexed claim.
deferring to the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views; Figure 1 is a view in perspective of. my picture frame, parts being broken away, and illustrating by broken lines the supporting i'neinbcr bent back to its operative position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the frame, as
viewed from its rear side, and showing suitable flexible means which may be employed for suspendin the same. Fig. 3 is a section taken on ine 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. dis a view in perspective of one of the corner pieces of my frame, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view thereof.
I I n o, I l My picture frame in its preferred itorm con'iprises four angular telescoping sections, arranged in diagonally disposed pairs, 1, 1, the fori'ncr of which receives the adjacent end portions of the latter, as will bereadily understood byreference to Figs. 1, 2 and 3. 'ihcse sections are formed substantially U- shape in cross section to provide. grooves, as 1, for reception of the edge portions of the picture, andone of these sections, shown as being one of the outer sections 1, is provided with. a flexible metallic arm '2 which can be bentback, illustrated in Fig. 1, to form a support, for tll( jfl"flll'l, when the latter is arranged on a table or the'l'iitel When the frame is suspended or hung, on the wall, arm 2 is bent up, as illustrated by Fig. 2, in which position it will be out of the way.
Corner pieces 3 are bent over the sections 1, 1, those engaged on the sections 1 being spaced from the face thereof by spacing blocks, as 4, so that all of the corner pieces will lie in substantially the same plane, thereby lending uniformity and enabling the free end portions of the sections 1 being reccived thereunder so as to be obscured from view.
Sections 1, l are provided on their free end portions with aperturcd cars 5 through which a flexible tie, as (3, may be passed for preventing accidental displacement of the sections. lVhcn it is desired to hang the frame on a wall, tie (i can be engaged with the picture, nail or book (not shown), after having been passed through the ears of the horizontal telescoping arms of the upper sections 1, 1 and through the ears of the vertical arms of the lower sections 1, 1., shown in Fig. 2. When the picture frame is to be arranged on a table or the like, tie (3,
after having been passed through the ears 5, as shown in Fig. 2, is tied in any convenientmanner. l
In the formation of sections 1, 1, metal blanks are bent so as to, while being substam tially U-shaped in cross section, have one side Hill, the forward side wall, extended beyond the other, and such extended side I walls of sections 1 ha vc their free edge por tions bent inwardly to provide a retaining ilange 'Z, beneath which the free edge pm lion of the adjacent section 1, is received.
A picture framiconstructed as described, is simple in construction, ciinnparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and while being; capable of being readily adjusted to accommodate a picture. and being so bold. presents a neat appearance. While I have described sections, 1, 1 as being formed of metal, yet any other suitable nmtcrial can be employed without departing from the spirit of my invcntion, as defined in my annexed claim.
Having thus described my invcnl ion, what I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters the adjacent free end portions of said two 1') having 0th of their end portions slidably Patent of the United States of America, is: last named sections.
An adjustable picture frame comprising Signed at Sedro Woolley, Wash. this 13th four an ular sections, two of said sections day of January 1909.
received in the adjacent end portions of the ANrl HO} 1 1 E1 others of said sections, and corner pieces car- VJitnesses: ried by said first two named sections and be- ROBERT H. R-nrsiw, ing spaced therefrom to receive thereunder FRED (I. ScnouK.
