PICTUREFRAM:E HANGER.
Application filed February 19, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. Donna, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in The ture-l rame Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in supports and more particularly to picture frame hangers.
in important object of this invention 1s to provide a picture frame hanger havlng novel means whereby the same may be readily and conveniently adjusted for support ing pictures of various shapes and sizes,
, A. further object of the invention is to provide a picture hanger having novel means for supporting pictures in an inclined posidon so that the same may be readily viewed.
A still further object of the invention 1s to provide picture hanger which is neat in appearance, desirable in use and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages oi? the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forinng a part of this application and in which. like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure l is a perspective of the improved picture hanger in use,
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the same detachcd,
Fig. 3 is an end hanger applied.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred ernliodiment of the invention. the numera 5 designates a pair of attaching members or strips each otwhich comprises sections 6 and 7 having spaced apertures 8 adapted for the reception of bolts 9. Wing nuts 10 may he threaded. onto the bolts 9 after the same have been extended through the alined openings 8 of the sections 6 and 7 and are readily detached for the purpose of lengthening or shortening the attaching members 5. Each attaching member 5 is provided with two ot -the bolts 9 arranged in spaced relation so that the sections 6 and 7 are prevented from movement with relation to each other.
elevation of thoimproved Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Serial No. 359,946.
The lower portions of the attaching members or strips 5 are joined by a connecting strip 12 having its end portions provided with spaced openings 13 adapted for registration with the openings 8 01 the sections 7 for receiving bolts 15 which serve as a medium for connecting the sections '7 and the lower connecting strip 12. Obviously, the space between the attaching members 5 may be adjusted by extending the bolts 15 through the proper openings 13 in the end portions of the lower connecting strip.
The lower portions of the sections 7 are hooked, as indicated at 17, and form a support for a picture frame 18. As illustrated in Fig. 3, the lower side 01" the picture frame is mounted upon the hooked portions 17 of the sections 7. The upper side of the picture frame is engaged by a pair of clips 19 havin one end portion curved outwardly as indicated at 20, for overhanging the pic ture frame. Each clip 19 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 21 adapted to receive a fastening bolt 22 which is also adapted to be extended through one of the openings in the upper section 6. In this manner each clip may be applied at the proper position on one of the sections 6 and may be adjusted longitudinally oi: the section 6 after being applied. By this construction each of the clips may be readily moved out of engagement with the upper edge of the picture frame either by a pivotal or sliding movement.
The upper portions of the strips or sections 6 are curved upon themselves to form hooks 24 adapted to be engaged with a picture molding 25 when it is desired to hang the picure. is illustrated in Fig. the portion of each section 6 between the hook 2 1 and the clip 21 is curved longitudinally or ofi set. as indicated at 26 so that when the hanger is suspended from a picture molding the picture will be arranged in a slightly inclined position with relation to the wall.
The sections 6 are adjustably connected by an upperconnec ing section 28 which, as illustrated in Fig. 2, comprises a pair of sections or strips 29. The sections 29 of the connecting member 28 have their inner end portions overlapped and adjustably connected through the medium of a pair of bolts 30 extended through spaced openings 31 in the sections. The sections or strips 29 are adjustably connected to the attaching members 5 by a pair of bolts or other suitable fastening means 32. The bolts 22 and 30 have threaded engagement with wing nuts which adapted for engaging the sideedges of the picture frame when applied to the hanger. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the portions of the sections 29 in "ardly of the hooks 33 are offset, as indicated at 35, so that the picture is arranged in spaced relation to the upper portions of the attaching members 5. The offset portions 35 also serve as a means for compensating for the thickness of the sections 6. 7 h r In adjusting the improved hanger to a picture frame preparatory to hanging the picture, the lower edge or side of the picture is engaged with the hooks 17 and the hooks 33 of the strips 29 are subsequentiyengaged with the sides of the picture frame, as illustrated in Fig. 1. After the frame has been engaged with the hooks 17 and 33, the clips 1 9 are engaged with the upper side of the picture frame so'as to absolutely secure the picture to the hanger. Ubviously, the improved hanger may be readily adjusted to support pictures of various sizes, The hanger may also be employed for supporting oval-shaped pictures by engaging the hooks 33 of the strips 29with the upper portion of the oval-shaped pictureframe.
lVhen the picture frame has been rigidly secured to the hanger, the hooks 2% may be engaged with the picture molding 25 or other suitable support, It will be observed that onlya small portion of the hanger is exposed to view after the picture is in posi-- tionso that the hanger does not detract from the appearance of thelpicture or other surroundings. r
it isto be understood that theform of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred embodiment of the same and that such mmor changes in construction and arrangement of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A picture frame hanger including a pair of spaced parallel attaching members comprising pairs of upper and lower adjustably connected sections, the lower portions of said lowersections being hooked for en aging the under side of a picture frame, the upper end portions of said upper sections being provided with hooks adapted for engaging the picture molding, upper and lower horizontal connecting members adjustably connected to said attaching members an d arranged in spaced parallel relation, said upper connecting member comprising a pair of adjustabiy connected strips having their outer end portions formed with hooks, clips arranged upon the upper sections of said attaching members and provided with elongated slots, and bolts extending through said elongated slots and the upper sections of said attaching members for adjustably securing per sections of said attaching member and the end portions of'said upper connecting member being offset for disposing a picture frame angularly with relation to the wall.
2. A picture frame hanger including a pair spaced parallel attaching members comprising upper and lower adjustably connected sections, the lower portions of said lower sections being hooked for engaging the under side of a picture frame, the upper end portions of said upper sections being provided with hooks adapted for engaging a picture molding, upper and lower consting members adjustably connected to d attaching members and arranged in spaced relation, said attaching members hav ing their upper end portionsoifset and the end portions of said upper connecting member also being offset for: disposing a picture frame angularly with relation to the wall, and means carried by said attaching members for engaging the upper side of a picture frame.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
