LEON TRESTMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COAT-HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, LEON Tnns'rMAN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Coatl-langer, oi which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to coat hangers, and
especially to the cords or chains which are attached on the inner side oi the collar to enable the same to be hung upon a hook.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved anchor plate which can be readily secured to the material of the garment. There are two oi these anchor plates provided, and they are connected by a chain.
The invention consists in the construction and combination oi parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part oi this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iiguros.
Figure l is a perspective showing the point at which the device is attached to the collar oi' the garment; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken through one of the anchor plates and illustrates the manner in which it is secured to the garment; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective of one of the anchor lates, representing the same as detached irom the garment and showing a short portion of the chain.
Referring more particularly to the parts, 1, 1, represent the anchor plates which are connected by a chain 2, as indicated. rlhe construction of these anchor plates is clearly shown in Figs. 2 to 4. Each anchor plate comprises a face plate 3 which is formed near its middle point with an elongated eye 4 having a longitudinal bar 5 therein. These face plates 3 are kite-shaped, their small ends being disposed inwardly, or adjacent to each other, as shown. These ends are connected by the chain 2, as indicated.
Each 'lace plate 3 is provided with a iastening clip 6 of pliable material, such as brass, which is bent to form a loop 7 around the bar 5 and passing through the eye 4. The body oi' this fastener is formed into two tongues 8 which are disposed in alinement Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 27, 1908.
Serial No. 464,760.
with each other and formed into points 9, and in applying the device these tongues are extended, lying against each other, and are thrust through the material oi the coat collar 10, as will be readily understood. After they have been passed through the garment from the inner side, as shown, I apply on the outer side of the collar an inner plate 11, which has a transverse eye 12 near the middle, through which the tongues pass, as shown. After being passed through the eye 12, the tongues are bent away from each other and flattened against the iace ol' the plate, as indicated. On the outer face oi the plate 11, a pair oi` keepers 13 are attached by rivets, as shown. These keepers 13 are prei'- erably formed of pliable metal extend transversely when the tongues 8 are bent against the face of the plate, and aiter the tongues are bent as described, the keepers are bent downwardly against the outer iaces of the tongues. ln this way the tongues are clenched in position so that they cannot be displaced from their iolded condition without bending the keepers out of their bent position. In this way a very effective means is provided for locking the anchor plates to the garment.
Tfhile l have described the device as applied at the coat collar, to attach a hanging chain to, it is obvious that the anchor plate may be attached at any point on the garment for securing a chain thereto, such as a key chain or the like.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
1. An anchor plate ol` the class described, comprising a `lace plate, a clip attached t-o said i'ace plate and adapted to pass through a garment, an inside plate having an eye receiving said clip, said clip having tongues adapted to be bent against the face of said inside plate, and movable members Jfor securing said tongues on said plate.
2. In a device of the class described, in combination, a face plate, a clip attached to said face plate and having tongues extending inwardly, and an inner plate having an eye through which said tongues pass, said tongues being adapted to be flattened against the face of said inner plate, said inner plate having movable keepers attached thereto adapted to fold over said tongues to hold the same in their folded condition.
Patented Aug. 24, 1909.
In a device of the 'class dese'ribed, in l ed t' fold over said tongues to secure the Combination, a face plate having an eye, a saine.
