To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BELLE Honsownrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lac du Flambeau, in the county of Vilas and State of l/Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veil- Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in clasps and more particularly to that class adapted to be used in securing a veil or the like to a hat and my object is to provide a clasp of this class which may be readily and quickly applied to use.

A further object is to provide means for clamping the ends of the veil together without injuring or passing parts of the clasp through the veil.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a plan view showing my improved clasp applied to use. Fig. 2 is a central, sectional view through the clasp on an enlarged scale, showing the clasp as applied to use, and, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clasp in its open position with the plate having the central stem in initial position or reversely from that it occupies when the stem is in engage ment with the socket-member.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates the body of my improved clasp, which is preferably formed of a strip of elastic material, said body having secured to one end thereof a head 2, in which is formed a socket 3, while to the opposite end of the body 1 is secured a plate 4, having at its central portion a stem 5, said stem being formed of integral strips expanded at their upper ends to form a neck 6, and by so constructing the stem, the metallic strips will yield, or contract when the stem is entered into the socket 3 and by providing a restricted portion7 in the socket,

of metal and are which is adapted to engage the neck 6, when the stem and head are secured together, it will be seen that said parts will be securely held together.

The head 2 and plate l are provided with lateral extensions 8 and 9, respectively, the outer ends of which are provided with elongated slots 10, through which the ends of the body are introduced and by securing the portion of the body inserted through the slots, to the remainder of the body portion, it will be seen that the head and plate will be permanently fixed to the body.

In applying my improved clasp to use, the veil is placed over the rim of the hat and over the face of the wearer and the ends thereof conveyed to the back of the hat and crossed over each other, after which the body or elastic strap 1 is passed around the over-lapped ends of the veil and the stem 5 forced into the socket 3, said elastic strap thus forming a clamping arch over the fastening when the parts are assembled and forming a loop around the crossed ends of the veil and securely holding them together all as clearly disclosed by Fig. 2 of the drawings. It will thus be seen that by employing my improved form of clasp, the veil may be secured in position without employing pins, or other objects for securing the veil to the parts of the hat and it will also be seen that, as it is not necessary to tie the ends of the veil, said veil may be made much shorter, thereby reducing the cost of the veil.

What I claim is:

A clasp of the character described, comprising two members struck up of sheetmetal, one member having a resilient head formed therewith, the shank portion of which has a lateral concaved outline intermediate of its head and base, said head being laterally or outwardly bulged, the other member having a recurved lateral outline and adapted to be engaged by the first-referred to member, the first-referred to member having its outwardly or laterally bulged portion spaced off from the corresponding portion of the second-referred to or embraced member, said members each having a lateral extension at its lower end which, when same members are assembled, extend in opposite directions, said extension being formed, in continuation of said members, of sheetmetal and having transverse slot-s therein of narrow rectangular outline and an elastic strap looped through said slots of said members and forming a clamping ,arch over the fn stening when the parts are HSSBDTbiGd.
